  • This might be a dumb question?

    Hi all,

I am on day 2 of induction and I have been recently been diagnosed with GERD, which is basically just constant indigestion and heartburn. I have been instructed to take Omneprezole which is an anti-acid medication. Now after reading the ingredients, the pill contains yeast and other things. Will this be a problem? I don’t want anything to stall my weight loss but I know I have to take this medication but was just wondering if anyone had any insight?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Most medications can interfere with weight loss. As you probably know, weight gain is one of the possible side effects of Omeprazole.

Follow Atkins correctly and see how you react to Omeprazole. You might do fine taking it.

As it's prescribed by your doc, I'd take it until he gave you the ok.

However, I had GERD before Atkins, after a few weeks all of my symptoms were gone and I quit taking my pills. (Can't remember the name but I think it started with an R)...
I haven't had a problem with it since... UNTIL a few months ago when I tried going off Atkins.. Now, back on Atkins all of my symptoms are gone!!

.... have I mentioned that I LOVE Atkins?

You can also talk to your doctor and see if they can prescirbe something else...

      Good luck!!

Ditto !!! Do you notice a common thread here? I just gave all my antacids to a friend who thinks Atkins is evil, and is following a low fat diet and eats antacids like candy

Thank you everyone for your replies.

Its funny because its only day 2 for me and already the heartburn is going away. Hopefully, I wont have to be on it very long.

            Thanks again!

I am on this (basically prescription prilosec) and it does not hamper my weight loss at all.
