  • Doing well!

    Hi everyone,

just though I would drop you a line as to my progress so far. I am on day 11 since restarting induction after having 3 days 'off' over Christmas.

I have lost 6lbs so far and am feeling great. Not tempted to cheat at all. No cravings. Drinking loads of water and looking forward to the future.

My step-daughter who is 16 has also started and is on day 5. She has had a battle with her weight since being small and has recently reached 185lbs at 5'4". Her teenage mood swings are already noticeably better. She even gave ne a kiss and said goodbye before leaving for school the other day so I'm taking it she is feeling good too! She has stuck to this longer than any other eating paln and even had a panic tonight when she dipped her chicken breast into her friends garlic mayo while dining out tonight!!

I so hope she sticks it out as it will be nice to take this journey together.

    Hope everyone is inducting well,

    Brassy

congrats on getting back on plan and finding something your child can do to.

you might want to discuss with your child's doc the nutriants she will need as she is still a developing growing female.

thanks for the advice chuck....grateful for your response. I'm a nurse practitioner so didnt go to docs, my plan is that she does a short induction then moves straight onto OWL to get those extras in. She taking a multivit and am making sure she gets her full quota of cheese and cream too. She's that keen that she wants to stay on ind for 6 months but said no way...as she still growing and I don't want her to get bored and fall off the wagon!

      Cheers,

There is a different bookforteens since they need more nutrition than an adult - the name is "Feed your Kids Well" by Dr. Fred Pescatore. Dr. Pescatore was an associate of Dr. Atkins. You may want to pick up a copy of that book to make sure your daughter gets the correct nutrition.

No one under 18 should be doing any of the weight loss phases without the consent of their pediatrician.

          That's the "official" Atkins stance.

There's a big difference for someone who is still growing, and whose brain isn't fully developed yet, and an adult.

Just as the weight loss phases of Atkins aren't appropriate for pregnant or nursing women, they're not appropriate for a child under 18.

Doesn't mean either group can't do maintenance ... nor does it mean either group can't eat "healthy".

                    Re: Doing well!

While I know the "Atkins line" with regard to caution children under 18 to check with the pediatrician, I also trust that Brassy as a nurse practioner is aware of the pit falls and the reasons behind the Atkins caution.

My stepson, as a minor, went on Atkins along with my husband and me. He began OWL at the end of 14 days. With obesity running at an all time high, I applaud you Brassy for helping your daughter. I wish I had that kind of support when I was an obese teenager.

                      Re: Doing well!

There's ways to help children change their eating without doing Induction or early OWL.

                      That's the point!

actually you might want to read the transcript of Dr Atkins last TV interview with Larry King which used to be posted here. in it Dr Atkins told a caller her teenage child should already be on atkins when she ask if the child could start atkins after giving the childs size.

He didn't say Induction though... just "Atkins". We know from Atkins for Life that one does not have to start Atkins with Induction.

From Dr. Atkins' foreword to Dr. Pescatore's book (Feed Your Kids Well), my understanding is that it wasn't Atkins Induction they were using for underage patients at the Atkins Center.

let me see if I'm understanding you guys we have a licensed medical practioner monitoring the teens eating and supplements

and 2 laymen are giving medical advice contradicting the medical professional about what foods should be in that diet?
