  • Good on-the-go snacks?

    Hi all,

I'm starting semester two at the college soon, and between full-time school and full-time working midnights, I can't always cook for every meal. I was wondering about some good snacks for induction that do not need to be refrigerated?

I've thought of pepperoni sticks and such, but a lot of them have nitrate, or salt, or even sugar.

I was hoping someone had some ideas for me. I thought of also maybe some hard-boiled eggs, but I'd love more ideas - as I'm sort of lost.

    Thanks!

Try this out. Add to it if you'd like. Maybe we need a thread like this for newcomers.

buy a small soft pouch cooler and then you can have refridgerator snacks and meals on the go. I even packed one of those and froze the cooked meats to use as the ice on the plane for our Christmas vacation flight since they don't allow ice trough the security checkpoints. By the time the day was done the frozen food had defrosted to make dinner.

You can cook larger recipes, so that you eat from them for more than one day.

Veggies. Peppers, cherry tomatoes, celery sticks...

        Cheese sticks.

Hard boiled eggs are a good idea, too.

Oh, and don't have veggies alone for a snack. Eat them with some protein and fat.

I think the idea of a snack bag with freezer things in that is a great idea. That is what I do when I am on the "run". I pack one of those. I do use left overs - I like meat leftovers, chicken and chicken wings cold. I also have cheese and some veggies. You can pack a thermos with some soup for other meals.

Make rollups ahead of time with sliced meat, cream cheese or cheddar and celery or green pepper. roll them up and secure with small toothpick and put into a baggie next to ice. Also, and this is one of my fave's, I cook bacon and cool it in the fridge...then I use the cooled bacon to wrap around vegies and avocado(the fat) and secure them. Bacon is easy to use for times like this. I also like olives in a baggie too. You can also make cheese crackers to take with but watch the cheese intake!
