  • A Question Please.Day 7 and gained 3 pds. Coming off Bulimia

I have been on Atkins for 7 days now after I promised my bf I would try. The problem I am having is that ive gained 3 pds and it is very depressing. Would my body take more time to get into fat burning mode? Any suggestions would really help. Im thinking about going back to being bulimic. That way I always maintained a 120 119 average

    Im 26
    5'4 123 pds NOW

    goal weight 110

    Hi.

Eating disorders are never a good option for health or weight loss. Just remember Terri Schiavo's bulimia was the reason she was in that persistent vegetative state.

Post a couple days worth of your menus, including amounts of food and your beverages.

      Hi Cbodeen, :wave

I'm glad you posted and you need to know that the human body can fluctuate in weight roughly between one and five pounds within any 24 hour period.

That's part of the reason we recommend so strongly that people avoid scales during Induction. That said I think there are certainly more pressing issues for you right now than Atkins.

Bulimia is a physiological eating disorder, classified as such in the early 80's and although people who suffer from it can appear perfectly normal it can have devastating consequences if left untreated.

I'm sure you know this, from the erosion of tooth enamel, dehydration, fluid build up in the intestines and heart failure.

The good news is that Bulimia is treatable and the recovery rates are high. The fact that your considering going back to bulimic behavior is evidence enough that you need to get yourself to a Dr. who specializes in eating disorders and get yourself some help - this is imperative, but only you can decide to save yourself, Atkins can't do it, your boyfriend can't do it it's all up to you.

The Rader programs have an excellent reputation for treating all sorts of eating and body image disorders, a visit to their website would be well worth your time, they offer everything from in and out patient treatment programs, referrals and online chat and message boards. Here's their link:

As Peter said, we all find our weight moves up and down over the day - as well as from day to day. :hug

Here is an interesting thread about weightloss you might find useful to think about
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

stop in the name of love

Please stick with Atkins for 1 year before deciding whether it works for you or not. Your body needs time to heal. You need time to heal.
          :hug

Perhaps you can relate better to a young person who has already
          found success with Atkins.

I don't mean to be blunt, but it sounds like you have a desire to keep hurting yourself. (I know from experience this never works...)

Learning to refrain from impulsive behaviors that cause us harm is as big a focus of this WOL as losing weight. I'm glad that your boyfriend cares about you - but do you care about you?

It isn't healthy to use an inanimate device to determine your self-worth. No external sensor can tell you about the real you.
