I can't afford to buy the book at this time. I got most of my information from the atkins web page. I was hoping to join this page and get more advice since most of you have been doing this for some time with great success. I read a post on here that someone was saying you cant have any caffeine during induction or any fake sugars? is this true? is it just that it can cause crazing or that it actually puts the weight loss on hold? also can i have any of the atkin bars or shakes in the induction phase. How long should I stay in this phase? why do some people stay in induction? thanks all for the help

Ironically, atkins. com has too much wrong information to be reliable.
>>I can't afford to buy the book at this time.>>
Can you get it from the library?
>>I read a post on here that someone was saying you cant have any caffeine during induction or any fake sugars? is this true?>>
Not 100% true. Dr. Atkins does advise giving up caffeine, and there's a limit of 3 servings a day of artificial sweetener ... Splenda being the preferred sweetener on Atkins.
>>also can i have any of the atkin bars or shakes in the induction phase.>>
"Can"? Well ... some of them are "allowed", but most of us would recommend that you stick to whole foods.
>>How long should I stay in this phase?>>
It's a minimum of two weeks.
Most of your weight loss should happen in the 2nd phase of Atkins. Moving on to OWL is a good idea.
>>why do some people stay in induction?>>
Good question.
Until you get the book (and you really must get one!), read:

Between you and your fiance (who is also doing Atkins), you surely can afford $0.75 plus shipping? It'll be one of the best investments you ever make! In the meantime, Georgiana provided some starter links in your other thread (and atkinsgal08 did up above).

Re: What can't I have in induction etc
thanks again. I'm going to get it. I keep reading about the 3 cups of veggies a day 2 from top list. 1 from 2nd list. is this the max, can I not have more lettuce than that in my salad or through the day?

Re: What can't I have in induction etc
Gina, there are two schools of thought on this. I'm a veggie hog, so I say you go right ahead and eat a good and wide variety of veggies from BOTH Induction lists. Keep track of what you are eating so that you do not exceed 20 *net* grams of carbohydrate per day, but don't worry about the three cup limit for vegetables.
[If you want to adhere to the three-cup limit, though, I put some ways to meet the three-cup limit (while getting most of your net carbs from vegetables) in my blog.]
