Could you please explain how a "break" from Atkins can be a "good thing"?Originally posted by PolarBearKingSometimes a break is a good thing."Get action. Seize the moment. Man was never intended to become an oyster."

Re: back to basics!
First off, I said sometimes a break is good thing. I did not say that getting away from "Atkins" was a good thing. Breaking up the mototony(sp?) of doing the same things day in & day out is sometimes a good thing. It can renews ones energy.Originally posted by Georgiana View PostCould you please explain how a "break" from Atkins can be a "good thing"?
But everbody's different. Everyone will have a different reason. I was mostly just trying to be supportive.
I suppose one could make the argument though, that sometimes you have to see (in this case taste) what you're missing in order to appreciate the Dr Atkins lifestyle and all that it has to offer.PBK - M/45/6'3"

Re: back to basics!
To break the monotony, one can try new recipes... especially when one is at the higher end of the Carb Ladder. For those stuck for far too long in extended Induction, moving up the Carb Ladder helps, too.Originally posted by PolarBearKing View PostBreaking up the mototony(sp?) of doing the same things day in & day out is sometimes a good thing.
From what I've seen, the opposite is true. Most people feel like crap after cheating. It can renews ones energy.
And for many people, a "break" lasts for days, weeks, months... or even years. By the time the "break" ends, the extra pounds often bring more friends to the party and along with them come the health problems.
Many people don't have reasons, but excuses.Everyone will have a different reason.
I know you were trying to be supportive. But telling someone that a break (that is, cheating) might be a good idea (especially in the Induction forum!) is not exactly support. It's enabling.I was mostly just trying to be supportive."Get action. Seize the moment. Man was never intended to become an oyster."

Re: back to basics!
Since she is back, I'd say it's supportive.
To me, enabling is saying that you can have another slice of cake and we'll work on it tomorrow.
Do you ever let anything go Georgiana??? The quote "Relax Francis" comes to mind (Google it). Do you really think that by being so negative is going to help everyone (or anyone for that matter) on this forum. EVERYONE reacts differently. Whether or not you think it's an excuse or a reason...
Never-the-less, neither one of us her knows her circumstances (nor is it our business). For example, she very well may have gone away or back home for the holidays where some of the options you outlined (which were all good) were not available to her.PBK - M/45/6'3"

Re: back to basics!
Well, I guess I have a broader definition of this. Enabling is also telling someone that taking a break from Atkins is a good thing sometimes, whether or not that person is currently on track.Originally posted by PolarBearKing View PostTo me, enabling is saying that you can have another slice of cake and we'll work on it tomorrow.
You should also keep in mind that it is not only the OP reading this thread.
I wasn't discussing the case of the OP there. It was a reply to your comment that some people (not necessarily the OP) might need a break sometimes in order to avoid monotony.she very well may have gone away or back home for the holidays where some of the options you outlined (which were all good) were not available to her"Get action. Re: back to basics!
WOW! That went way too far. Both of you need to stop. I am so tired of reading all of the negative post that have been on this board lately. I am so tired of people chastising people for saying something that they feel is "wrong". Getting jumped and seeing others getting jumped is what makes people leave the board. Chill, she is back, support her, don't jump others for supporting her as well. We all do things differently, let us be that way!Denise
