I've been on induction for seven days after the first 3 was in ketosis. The fourth day I was out of ketosis and I've only been eating meat and eggs. I added a salad for two days and gained weight. I'm eating less than 20 carbs a day almost 0. Help!

Re: No loss no ketosis after 7 days on induction!
You need to be eating veggies every single day. Dr. Atkins plan is not just meat & eggs. Here is a link to the list of allowed foods on Induction~
Your stats would be helpful along with a few days menus. The biggest help you can give yourself is get the book & in the meantime read all the sticky threads in the forums so you start off with a clean 2 week Induction.

Re: No loss no ketosis after 7 days on induction!
Ummm... what you're doing is not Atkins.
How do you know you aren't in ketosis? Are you using Ketostix? They are not reliable. They only measure the concentration of excess acetoacetate (one ketone body) that is spilled over in urine. Just because you have no/little acetoacetate in urine, it does not mean acetoacetate and the other two ketone bodies (beta-hydroxybutyrate and acetone) are not present in your blood.Originally posted by EvergirlNo loss no ketosis after 7 days
Dr. Atkins defined ketosis as the burning of primarily fat for fuel. When this takes place, it will lead to ketonemia (ketones in blood), but not necessarily to ketonuria (ketones in urine) that can be confirmed with Ketostix. So you could be in ketosis without turning those Ketostix any color.
If you enter your foods in FitDay, I bet your vitamin and mineral intakes are awfully low!Originally posted by Evergirl View PostI'm eating less than 20 carbs a day almost 0.
And if you're taking a multivitamin... it's not a substitute for real food. It's a nutritional supplement.
I'm also pretty sure that you won't gain fat from eating a salad!
Take a look at the Acceptable Foods List (Glenda posted the link to it above) and to the Rules of Induction:
Then plan a menu that is actually an Atkins Induction menu and post it in the Review My Menu forum:

First of all, what you eat today is not necessarily what will appear on the scale tomorrow.I added a salad for two days and gained weight.
Second, you could have eaten only eggs and meat, and still have days when you gained weight. Weight fluctuations are natural."Get action. Seize the moment. Man was never intended to become an oyster."

Please follow the book it works but you have to work it. Does things like only eating egg or milk is not going to help you stay slim in the long run.

Re: No loss no ketosis after 7 days on induction!
There is some great advice here!
That said- contrary to popular belief- some people do not lose weight on Atkins. Just as some do not lose weight lowering calories and working out every day. I have worked the plan with several people who gained or did not lose. They changed to a different plan and lost weight- while I didn't lose on their plans. Its not a one size fits all way of life.
I would suggest you do the plan right though- before giving up. Stop using the sticks and dont get on the scale so much. Its a sure fire way to fail.

all the times people have come here and told us that they cannot lose on Atkins it is usually because they have no clue what Atkins is. I cannot say there really has been an exception to this - but anything is possible.Originally posted by LosingItAgain View PostThere is some great advice here!

Re: No loss no ketosis after 7 days on induction!
Ive seen it happen, and I was the teacher(so to speak) lol, so I know its possible. Two weeks, zero weight loss. (but they lost using WW- weird right?) I cant expect someone to keep going with no results. I think it would be really arrogant if I said this is for everyone with no exceptions. kwim?Originally posted by liv View Postall the times people have come here and told us that they cannot lose on Atkins it is usually because they have no clue what Atkins is. Plus...its not that hard to grasp the rules, maybe I just refuse to believe someone would be that dense? lol

Re: No loss no ketosis after 7 days on induction!
We had members who lost nothing in the first two weeks, but then reached goal. So I wouldn't say Atkins doesn't work if there's no weight loss for the first two weeks.Originally posted by LosingItAgain View PostTwo weeks, zero weight loss."Get action. Seize the moment. I would say I don't blame them if they don't keep at it- especially considering its not the norm. I am not sure I would have kept at it!Originally posted by Georgiana View PostWe had members who lost nothing in the first two weeks, but then reached goal.
