It is not environmentally friendly to get all your water in plastic. Try to be friend with tap water. I drink some carbonated water at times though. But the book says it does not count as water.

You must drink at least eight 8-ounce glasses of pure water daily. This can be filtered, mineral or spring water (not seltzer).
Mineral water like Pellegrino does have some carbon dioxide added, but is it categorized as that no-no, seltzer water? (philosophical question only - I'll keep chugging my Pellegrino) Also, what G relayed was what someone else stated, with the proviso that she (G) has never seen research to back up the claim. Is anyone aware of the existence of peer-reviewed, published research that backs up the claim that carbonated water does not detox a person like non-carbonated water does?

The thing about carbonated water is that some of the CO2 inescapably combines with the water itself and becomes carbonic acid. That changes the pH of the water, and puts an extra load on your kidneys. Plain water makes it easier for your kidneys to process all the toxins which are getting dumped into your bloodstream as your fat cells shrink, so we should make it as easy on our kidneys as possible.
