  • Protein Shake Question

On day 3 of the induction diet. I was wondering...

    1) Is a shake with 3g of sugar is acceptable?
    2) Does anyone know of any protein shakes with 0g sugar?

    Thanks!

    Re: Protein Shake Question

No, sugar is a no-no. The only thing that I can tell you that is induction friendly would be an egg nog made with 2 eggs, 1/4 cup cream, 1/4 cup water, a pack of splenda and flavoring. I use cream brule or vanilla.

Atkins has shakes but they are notorious for stalling folks and anything that has ingredients that you can't pronounce should be avoided. If you want to try them, wait til your done with the first two weeks of Induction.

yes.. get ISO-Sensation.. its only 1 carb for a scoop with less than 1 carb of sugar.. If you get it in the cookies and cream its absolutely delicious and it has 30 grams of protein! I use it for lunch some days =) but i just started 6 days ago so idk if its legal or not.. but it seems legal.. Sugar is the last ingredient on the list so im thinkin it is legal =)

          It's not ideal.

Sorry Im new, I just figured if you can have 2 tbsp of dressing thats worth 2 carbs that a 16 oz protein with less than one carb would be fine..

so are these not good?? cuz i need to stop drinking it if so?

              Re: Protein Shake Question

The first shake mentioned, with 3 grams of sugar is certainly not Atkins friendly.

The second one is more friendly.

However, no shake should be a meal replacement.

                Re: Protein Shake Question

I am new to atkins as well. I was about to ask the same question, but I always assumed they were forbidden during induction from what I have read.
Before atkins I used a EAS brand whey protien shake with only one carb gram after working out sometimes. The stuff tasted great. I cant do diet drinks or the fake sugars. I have tried them all and they taste horrible and unatural too me, but for some reason the protien shakes taste real and great.
If there is a way i could get one of those in my diet while on the atkins it would make the diet much more enjoyable.

Its not the carbs, there are natural carbs in eggs etc. But sugar causes cravings and thats why we avoid it in any form.

I never say never, but I always tell new folks to give induction 2 weeks as written, 2 weeks sticking to the list completely. Give yourself the best start possible.

it has 30 grams of protein!
You're aware that Atkins is a high fat diet, not high protein... right?

About 65% of one's calories should come from fat during Induction.

add a healthy fat to that IOS shake and you have something you can use for emergencies on your atkins.
don't fall into the slimfast pit of using shakes as meals on a regular bases though cause once you reach goal weight you will not have learned how to control your portions, how to respond to cravings, what foods consumed at that meal time effect you negatively, and temptation from real foods that lurk everywhere. You know that is how the slimfast company stays in business cause of all the do over folk

What are the ingredients? check they are all on the allowed list to help you decide which phase of Atkins they are fine for.
