  • Question about counting carbs.

    Hi All,

I just started my induction yesterday and have a question. Im using FitDay as recommended and recording all my foods eaten. Well today I ate a can of mushrooms with some bonless pork ribs for lunch. The can of mushrooms said it has 4 carbs per serving and there are 2 servings in the can so 8 carbs for the total can. It also says there are 2 grams of fibre per serving.

So if im doing this right im supposed to subtract the total fibre from the carbs? So in reality there are only 4 carbs in the can of mushrooms?

I've been beating myself up a little and becomming a carb counting freak! I understand the 20 carb limit but is it going to be devistating if I eat 22 carbs instead of 20? I don't see you being able to truley and accuratley measure all the carbs?

    Thanks for the help!

    Re: Question about counting carbs.

Your right subtract the fiber from the carbs for your net carbs.

If you are getting most of your carbs from veggies, you probably won't go over 20. Just use fitday until you get a feel for how many carbs your getting a day, then only every once in awhile. Its an easy diet to follow as we don't need to count calories, which is also a pain

      Re: Question about counting carbs.

For some foods, it's better to enter it as a custom food. For example, if you know you will be eating that brand of canned mushrooms on a regular basis, you should enter it as a custom food. You'll avoid any carb counting confusion that way.

As for counting carbs.....if you are in the US, then you need to subtract the fiber amount from the total number of carbs. So your mushrooms will have 4 net carbs per serving. HOWEVER, if you are in the UK and some parts of Europe, the total carb IS the net carb, because they don't count fiber as part of the total carb.

          Re: Question about counting carbs.

          Hang on Billy!!

Are you in UK? I ask because you spelled fibre not fiber!

If so then the UK labels do not count fibre as a carbohydrate, making your carbs for the mushrooms to amount to 8 not 4

Oops! I should have read the whole thread before posting, as I notice Megs (not2late) already pointed this out

Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
