  • H all I am new and just starting

Hi ALL! Hope everyone is having a great day so far.

I am about to start the induction. A little about me. I am femal, 39 I weigh 196 and I want o get to 145. I do have hypothyroidism but I am on medication.

I have some questions. I love milk and I know I cant have any. What is best for my coffee ( which is now decaf)? I know milk is out. I did get the sweetzfree to use instead of the splenda and I love it.

How do I know how much is too much. Like say I want chicken for lunch, how much is ok? I also love salads, what kind of dressings are ok? Any of the free italians ok? Coke zero ok, to kill a sweet tooth? Any advice you can give for meal ideas would be great. I have to buy for myself and family so tis will be interesting cooking things seperatly. I love pasta so this will be hard!! But I am determined.
    Thanks all

Instead of milk in your decaf, we use heavy cream - a little splash will do the trick
Chicken is fine for lunch and the rule of thumb is to eat enough to get full. It might be a leg or half the chicken. Blue, Ranch. oil and vinegar, some vinegretts seem to have the least carbs, remember we use full fat dressings not the free ones. Become a label reader and know what your putting into your mouth.
Check the food section for menu ideas.

And if you haven't already, read the book. You gotta know where your going to get there.

HI thanks for all the info. I dont have the book yet, I ordered it but I printed out all the pages ( 40) of information on the website, is that ok to get started?
Oh and I can do full fat, not problem there!! I love quiches and fish and cheese. Not big on many vegatables other than salad, cucumbers, tomotoes, green beans and a couple more that I cant have though.

Which website? Atkins.com? Their Acceptable Foods List is not correct. Their Carb Counter is not correct either.

I don't know what else you printed.

Here are the Rules of Induction and the Acceptable Foods List:

To keep track of your carbs, you can use fitday.com. Remember that we count net carbs on Induction, which are total carbs minus dietary fiber. The online version of FitDay doesn't count net carbs for you, so you'll need to do the math yourself.

what kind of dressings are ok?
You'll find the answer to this on the Acceptable Foods List.

Coke zero ok, to kill a sweet tooth?
Diet sodas won't kill a sweet tooth. On the contrary, they will keep it alive.

It's best to use Induction to break your addiction to sweets.

Any advice you can give for meal ideas would be great.

Your kidding?! The atkins website is wrong on their own diet? Oh wonderful. I checked those links and it is so spread out as to what I can have I would spend forever writting it all down. Other than the book is there a website that is correct where i can print a list out.

The list at ADBB coincides with the one in the book. So you can print that out.

Maybe you like this smaller version better: http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...ved-foods.html

Light Cream - Pretty much the same as half and half. Also know as coffee cream or table cream. Will whip if it contains 30% butterfat but will not be very stable. Generally contains only 20% butterfat. Also know as single cream. Light cream is not available everywhere
                    .

Well that is why I have never heard of it. I would think that the more butterfat the better so I think I still prefer heavy cream.

It's mentioned in Chapter 11 of DANDR 2002:

"cream (heavy or light); limit to two to three tablespoons per day"
"Get action. Seize the moment. Man was never intended to become an oyster."
