  • Why am I hungry?

    Hi

    Ive been stick to the diet since I started last Sunday. My average calorie intake is around 1,700 and fit day is telling me I am 5%carbs/30%protein/65%fat. By the time I am ready to go to bed I am starving, and of course as soon as I wake up I am hungry and need breakfast.

    According to ketostix Im not in ketosis yet. Any ideas what I should do, more food before bedtime, Im afraid to go higher in calories. Or should I just have a warm drink ?

    It doesn't mean you are not in ketosis though. One can be in ketosis without changing the color of the sticks. Ketostix only measure the concentration of excess acetoacetate in urine... so if you have no excess acetoacetate to excrete in urine, there'll be no color change... although you might still have ketones in blood.

    Why? You might actually need more calories. If you are hungry (learn to distinguish between physical hunger and eating out of boredom or thirst), then you should eat.

      Did you start on Sunday the 10th? If so it could be a number of things. Feeling hungry all the time could be due to withdraws from just starting. It's a pretty common thing. One thing that I do when I feel hungry is drink alot of water. I have my scheduled meals and between them, I drink water to fight off the cravings. Water is one of the most overlooked things in any diet. At a minimum, you should be drinking 64oz of pure water with no additives. What types of foods are you eating? Usually protien and fat will fill you up. I saw your %'s but where's that comming from? As far as ketosis, everyone is different and it could take a few days. Sometimes people are in ketosis but it does not register on the strips. Things will get better! The more information you provide, the better people here can help you out.

        Initially many of us do feel extra hungry while our body is trying to work out what is happening

        You will find that some days you feel you could eat everything in the house and others you will have to eat 'a little something' just not to go over 6 hours without eating even if you don't feel particularly like eating.

        So if you are hungry then eat a 'legal' snack or meal.

              are you taking any meds for your hurt knee?

              The solution to your night time hunger is to eat as we are supposed to eat any time we are hungry. Have a piece of cheese if you have any left from your daily 4 ounce limit. if not a hard boiled egg or any other high fat low carb snack you enjoy.

              If the night time eatting doesn't help with your AM hunger then you are good to go with your breakfast.

              DO you have any medical blood sugar issues?
