I've been in the induction phase for 9 days now and the scale has not moved at all. I've been in ketosis for 6 of the days. I've not been eating a whole lot (don't have much of an appetite). I just eat when I'm hungry. I ride a recumbent bike for an hour each evening and also do 50 situps. I stand/walk all day at work so I'm at least somewhat active. I'm definitely smaller (I can feel the way my clothes fit), but I haven't lost any weight. I'm being very patient, as I know everyone is different... but does anyone have any tips or insight?

That could be a problem. Undereating is generally counterproductive on Atkins.

If you want to post exactly what you've been eating, with quantities and net carbs, we can take a look.

Re: Induction For 9 Days
Well, I know you're supposed to eat relatively often - I mainly meant I'm not over-saturating my body with dietary fat.
I really have been eating mostly romaine lettuce salad (with low-carb italian dressings), celery (with cream cheese), cauliflower, some meat (lean center-cut round steak). As for the amounts, not exactly sure.. not very much - just enough until I'm not hungry then I stop. I don't "stuff" myself.
I've been keeping track of the net carbs each day and I average about 16-19g per day.

It's hard to help you without amounts.

Then can you show a typical day's eating with the net carbs of each food?

You know that Atkins is high fat, right?J.

Re: Induction For 9 Days
I understand, I didn't strictly measure the amounts of each. I just kind of keep track as I go along. No problem.Originally posted by atkinsgal08 View Post>>really have been eating mostly romaine lettuce salad (with low-carb italian dressings), celery (with cream cheese), cauliflower, some meat (lean center-cut round steak). You know that Atkins is high fat, right?
I could give you an idea today.
2 eggs, 1
4 sausage patties, 0
2c romaine lettuce, 3
2tbsp italian dressing, 2
2tbsp colby jack cheese, shredded, 1
1/4lb hamburger, 0
1srv cauliflower sour-cream mash, 7
1/4c cottage cheese, 3
I do know that Atkins is a high-fat diet, but there is still a point where if dietary fat is in extreme excess - no body fat will be burned because a sufficient amount of dietary fat exists.

Are you counting net carbs?
And ... cottage cheese isn't allowed on Induction.

Many of us have 60-75% of our calories from fat ... and lose ... or maintain our loss.J.

Re: Induction For 9 Days
If you are getting smaller you are losing - the scale is not always the best way to measure losses. Your body is redistrubing things and changing its composition and that is great.
I eat plenty of fat - I love fat. It is almost impossible to put on weight when you eat fat. Wonderful stuff.
You also need to eat more - you barely ate anything. Not eating is going to make your body store every bit and lower its own metabolism We eat on this diet. You had virtually no protein for lunch - not good
You need to increase your veggie carbs (Most of your carbs now are coming from other sources) The rule is most carbs should come from veggies.
On your menu in addition to what J said you are heavy on dairy - Atkins told us to be careful with that stuff. Many stalls on it. If that is pre graded cheese it may have starches

Re: Induction For 9 Days
How many calories are you eating, on average? If your caloric intake is too low, your body may think it's starving and your metabolism will slow to conserve energy. Also, are you taking a multi-vitamin and keeping yourself hydrated?
You should also be tracking body measurements, since it's possible to lose inches without losing weight - and losing inches = losing fat.

I'm eating approximately 2000 calories, +/- ~200.Originally posted by Shrew2u View PostHow many calories are you eating, on average? I have always taken a multi-vitamin.
I am actually tracking body measurements also.. only every 3 days or so for the past 6 days.

Re: Induction For 9 Days
I had great luck on this diet before a few years ago. I went back to my old ways of drinking and eating whatever. I'm not going to make that mistake this time.Originally posted by liv View PostIf you are getting smaller you are losing - the scale is not always the best way to measure losses. I think I need to eat more. I also need to do as you said and cut down on dairy and increase vegetables. I will make this change starting tomorrow!

Re: Induction For 9 Days
I'm not sure you're counting net carbs, Chris...
3 net carbs in 2 cups of lettuce is more than it should be. According to the USDA database, a cup of romaine lettuce has 1.55 g carbohydrate and 1.0 g dietary fiber. That's 0.55 net carbs per cup... so 1.1 net carbs for two cups.Originally posted by chrisf View Post2c romaine lettuce, 3"Get action. Seize the moment. Man was never intended to become an oyster."

Re: Induction For 9 Days
As has been said, Chris - if you are losing inches you are losing FAT
And let's face it - nobody looking at you knows what your scales weight is but they all will see the slimmer you as you drop those clothes sizes, so you are doing great
BTW how much weight are you looking to lose?Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!
