    You can have it.
I think the main problem with people and coffee is they like sweetners and cream with it.
Buuuuuuuttttttt.. Coffee itself might stall some people as does cream cheese and all sorts of stuff.
    Ready for change

Dr. Atkins wrote we should avoid caffeine, as it might lead to cravings. It can also interfere with weight loss by triggering insulin release... and insulin is a fat storing hormone.

That being said, many people don't give up coffee... and it doesn't trigger cravings for them or stop weight loss.

Watch for cravings after you have it. There is a blood sugar symptoms test in DANDR, Chapter 12.

        Any food can stall.

Cream cheese is permitted during Induction (cheese is limited to 4 oz per day) and it was not considered a "problem food" by Dr. Atkins... unlike coffee.

Re: coffee with my eggs and bacon?

I think whether we want to admit it or not, Dr. Atkins said that the caffeine in coffee asks just like sugar to our blood and causes an insulin spike, which is counter productive to weight loss. I used to drink huge amounts of coffee and tea, and have cut way back to just two cups at breakfast thanks to Dr. Atkins. I'd like to switch to decaf, which still has a bit of caffeine, but I am slowly reducing the amount of coffee I drink to avoid massive headaches.

If you do drink coffee- reg or decaf- try whole cream! It is just delicious with Stevia! <3

I'm on day 15 and have been having coffee with cream the whole time. It hasn't affected me.

COngrats on getting to day 15. actually you don't know if it effected you or not since you don't have a 15 day doing atkins without coffee and cream results to compare it too. When you reach a point where you weight loss stalls out and just about everybody does have a stall or two on their way to goal weight you will know what to try first to break your stall the caffiene with the cream.

I'm reading the Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution and on Pg. 73 it reads:

"Caffeine mimics the effect of sugar on blood glucose levels by stimulating insulin release. It should be avoided by though who suspect they are caffeine-dependent and takin in limited quantities by others."

Also, in the FAQ section, it reads:

"Simply this: Caffeine stimulates the insulin mechanism, and that's your vulnerable spot. It raises blood sugar at first and then allows it to crash. This could mean fatigue, irritability, cravings, increased appetite, or the like."

I realize some people prefer the older book, but I have seen other studies outside of Atkins' related research that suggest the same thing.

                        Okay, thanks for clarifying!

We're actually using a newer book, that's why I was confused.

The quotes you gave are from DANDR 1992/1999, while I was looking in DANDR 2002.

Re: coffee with my eggs and bacon?

I have had coffee all along, no stalls or cravings. I too keep my consumption to 2 to 3 cups in the morning and occassionally a decaf in the evening. Coffee is one my treats so thankfully it hasn't affected me negatively. Good luck on your journey. It is great getting there! Now the trick is to stay there.

The quotes are actually from DANDR 1999. I wasn't sure if they appear in 1992, too... my notes are mixed up.
