  • Started Induction April 16th 2005

Hello All. Im new here, well sorta, I was on here a while ago and can't seem to remember my username. Oh well. I started on April 16th, it is officially day two. So I guess I am looking for others who started yesterday, maybe some of you are in my area. Buffalo NY. I am currently 290 lbs. the heaviest in my life, I knew I had to do somthing when I couldnt fit into my jeans that are like 22. My husband and I both started, we talked about it and I asked him to give me one week, if he didn't feel any better (which I know he will) then he is more then welcome to stop, however there is a catch to that, I buy all the groceries and do all the food shopping . So even if he doesnt stick to the diet at home, he will be atleast decreasing his carb intake.
Anywho. I have gotten into Atkins.com, they have a great journal section, well everything is great, they have tons of recepies and you can file them into your box and they have tons of useful information. You can even search the site according to what level of Atkins you are on. Well all, I hope to talk to alot of you, day one was for sure the hardest day, but now I am onto day 2. I know I can do it this time. See you all very soon.

Hello...I started Atkins on Friday ( April 15th ) I think that I have finally gotten over feeling so tired and irritated. I woke up this morning not feeling tired at all. Yesterday was kind of bad though. Took the kids to the carnival and kept smelling that funnel cake. I love funnel cake. But didnt cave in. I am trying to keep my motivation up. But there a few people who just started on Friday and Saturday. We all need to keep posting to keep eachothers spirits up. We can and will do this!! Atkins Rocks!!

Yeah I know how important that support is, it can make or break some dieters. I beleive you on how tempting carnivals are, the big Erie County Fair is not until August, I love the fair, I have gone every year of my life with the exception of maybe two or three years. If we keep posting I know it will get easier. Talk to you soon

Hello holly :wave and clydesgirl :wave I just wanted to welcome you to the board and wish you both well :hug

Also a word of caution about using recipes and meal plans from www.atkins.com for induction.
Make sure you check any ingredients both in recipes and on the labels of any 'lowcarb' products as nowadays the Atkins company appears to be bending the induction rules and recommending the use of products containing ingredients that are NOT on the list of foods for induction.

A cynic might suggest they are more interested in selling product than advising you on preparing 'unprocessed' food as Dr Atkins advised ensive

So print out and keep a copy of the acceptable foods list with you to make sure before you eat anything that it is 'legal' for induction - whatever it says on the packet about which stage of Atkins it is OK for!!
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

You asked your husband to give you a week....you need to be mindful that most of us go through what we call "Induction Flu" in the first week or sometimes longer.
Basically you feel like the dog's breakfast because you are withdrawing from sugar/caffiene/starches, etc.
So if you both are still feeling like crap in a week, hang in there!!! Give it the full 14 days of Induction. By then you'll be feeling yourselves again and the benefit of drinking all the water will have kicked in, and your clothes will be slightly looser.

Get your husband to read this post as well, so he knows what's going on when he's got his headache or body aches.
I was still feeling sick on day 7 and I reallllllly questioned the whole Atkins thing, but that was well over a year ago, and look at me now! Whoohoo!!! :icondance

Take some time and read the sticky's in this forum as well...very good info in there. :yes

All the best to the both of you!!

                  Howdy

Welcome back to Atkins. Not everyone gets the flu. I didn't.

I'd say give it a month, rather than just a week. You will feel so great after a month you will never want to quit.

                    Hi Everyone

IM also from Buffalo New York, And my start date is the same as yours! However, id love to say this is my first attempt, but to my embarassment this is probably attempt number 25 in the past few months, however, i now have a major reward for losing my weight,so, i have motivation-which was previously lacking. I did atkins last year and lost about 25 lbs very easily and felt great. However, i moved out on my own with a bunch of friends and, within weeks my hard work was gone. And,i promised myself to get re-committed however,i always had an excuse- "an exam, or a party" u name it.. I began eating whatever my roomates were however, the catch is that these girls can eat WHATEVER they want and not gain, and if someone places french fries near me, il be up 5 lbs lol.

So again, hey everyone! and im glad to be back, and have made it farther than i have in a while, and have great motivation now! )

Hello again all. Yes it does seem that Atkins.com is more into selling the products, however I dont buy any of the atkins products so I just find some sort of substitution. Other then that, I like the site. As far as the induction flu, I had headaches the first time I tried induction, and this time I have to say I just automatically felt better, no side effects yet. And Im in day three. It gets easier everday, like I see my self doing atkins longer and longer each day because I feel so good. Anywho, my husband is not the easiest person to persuade into a new wol. He has always been big, and I dont think he knows how to go about loosing weight, to be honest with you. But we will do it together, and anyway, even if he decided he didnt want to do it anymore, I do all the shopping and cooking, so he really wouldnt have a choice in that matter . See You All Soon.

My DH still doesnt really understand how this WOE works but after 22 months he is 3 stone down and no type II diabetic symptoms and normal blood pressure readings.
Like you I do the buying and cooking and planning and tell him what he is 'allowed' to eat when we eat out. I even ran a fitday account for him when he was on weightloss stages so I could dish out the right supplements etc.
He is now on maintenance and holding for the last 6 months or so.
