  • In ketosis even though I'm not strict AT ALL???

I re-started my Atkins diet last Thursday. I was in Ketosis by the third or fourth day and I am still in Ketosis 6 days into it. The thing is that I am not strict at all... I hardly ever drink water, I mostly drink diet sodas, which I know isn't good, I eat things that have 5 carbs here or three sugars there like shelled peanuts or a scoop of peanut butter, I even drank a medium sugar free vanilla Iced coffee from Mc.Donalds that had 16 carbs but I am still in Ketosis and I am still losing my induction weight (6 pounds so far)... I don't understand because when I read through the forums people are soo strict...They even buy special Ranch dressings and Mayonnaise which by the way I dont understand because the ranch and mayo I get have like 1 or 2 carbs and sugars...

so anyways My question is...Should I keep doing what I am doing since I am in ketosis and still losing or should I go strict (with a little more miserableness)? Do you think I would lose weight faster if I went strict???

    Thanks everyone!!

Hi! Wow. I am more of a perfectionist about things and like to do things the right way (not saying you are doing things the wrong way) but I think I would go strict, you wouldn't want the cheating to catch up to you, if you know what I mean. How do you know that you are in ketosis? Well, it is obvious that you are losing weight and congratulations on the loss. I am just more of a "Better safe, then sorry" type of person and that is another reason why I am so strict.
    Good Luck to you!!

What you're doing is not Induction, though.

Should I keep doing what I am doing
Do you honestly expect a "yes" to this question?

Do you think I would lose weight faster if I went strict???
To quote Dr. Atkins, "The only useful weight lost is the weight that does not come back again."

        I re-started my Atkins diet
Maybe the fact that this is at least the third time you're starting should tell you something?

I'm going to try and go strict tomorrow but when I do that I usually give up and get over it... if that's the case I will just do it the way I have been doing it ..I mean I'm seeing results..It doesn't usually catch up with me until I am full blown back to old habits... My Fiance lost 60 pounds doing it the book way and eventually gained it back as well... Thanks for your input

Why did you stop Atkins before?

Why is following Induction by the book difficult for you?

In your previous attempts, did you move to OWL on day 15?

It doesn't usually catch up with me until I am full blown back to old habits
Okay... but unless you are changing your habits, you'll keep going back to the old ones... so you'll keep gaining back the weight. Isn't that frustrating?

My Fiance lost 60 pounds doing it the book way and eventually gained it back
He gained the weight back because he stopped "doing" Atkins, not because he did it "the book way".

Doing the weight loss part by the book does not guarantee one won't stop Atkins once at goal (or even earlier). But it's definitely easier to successfully build a new way of eating for life by following Dr. Atkins' plan than by monkeying around with it.

As with everything else in life, you get out of this WOE whatever you put into it. Do the plan to the T, follow the rungs as they were written, and you will eventually be maintaining your ideal weight. Do the plan half a**, and I guarantee you will be disappointed very soon.

Interesting - what you are doing is not induction but in my opinion if where you are with your carbs and your choices right now makes you lose and you are happy with it I cannot see a problem with it. We can do Atkins a bit upside down if we want to by starting with a higher carb level. It is not necessary wrong.

It sounds like you are young and have one of those mebolisms I can only dream about Don't waste in by yo yo ing and making stupid food choices. This diet is about being healthy and eating whole foods - like veggies and foods with fewer chemicals. Make sure you do that too. While peanuts and iced coffiees can be nice treats they should not be part of our daily menu. So find your balance. But think about health and long term effects on your body of what you are doing.

                  >>The thing is that I am not strict at all.>>

And you're not doing Atkins, either.

                  >>Should I keep doing what I am doing since I am in ketosis>>

                  Up to you.

However, the goal of Atkins isn't just being in ketosis.

Puggle, sounds as if it's working for you and that's great.

                    But...
I was like you my first go-round. Lost the weight but didn't follow the rules of induction. As a result, I quickly went back to my old habits and routines as I had not adequately worked to break those habits. Doing a clean induction prepares you and helps you form new eating habits and also allows you to see what it feels like to not have those cravings.

When I did it my way before, yes, I lost the weight but I constantly had cravings for sweets and breads. I don't have those cravings now. I'd be interested in seeing how your weight loss would change doing it the "right" way.

                    Good luck on your journey.

that is a very good point. It is how I feel about induction too. It may be hard but it is worth it. We need to change habits and preferences when starting the diet. Let's face it we did not get fat by eating right and healthy. So learning to make the right choices with whole foods and vegetables is very important.

congrats on your low metabolic resistance and your high CCLL number.

Induction is about learning self control along with detoxing and getting your fat burning for energy production system built up. Since you are not doing induction why not just move to OWL and then you could add back your nut butters after you add more veggies and fresh dairy products and climb the carb ladder to make your Atkins WOE more suitible for your life choices.

Wow!!! Thanks for all the responses I can see there are some die hard Atkins fans out there It's not that I don't want to do the plan the way the book states it's just that it is hard for me and when I am miserable doing something I usually quit.

I stopped doing Atkins before because I went on a cruise and couldn't get back into it so I switched to Weight watchers only to find that kind of freedom was a bit too free for me...

The hardest thing for me is the Diet coke... I normally don't drink iced coffees but we thought it was sugar free and carb free..we figured that out too late how many carbs were in it.

I guess I have never done atkins right... I have the books but most of it put me to sleep...I jump around in it... I guess after reading your posts I have been on a more lo carb diet than the Atkins Diet... I just unburied one of my Atkins book... IS this the right one??

Is what I have been doing somewhere down the line in the book??

Thanks for all your help... I am going to try to read through my book AGAIN ..it's just so technical and boring to me Especially when I have school books to read everyday

And you think for others is easy?

Doing something "hard" is one thing... and feeling "miserable" is different.

You wrote that you stopped Atkins when you went on a cruise. So you didn't stop because you felt miserable. Or did you? I'm a little confused here...

Did you ever move past Induction?

I stopped doing Atkins before because I went on a cruise
Many have been on cruises and stayed on plan. It's things like this that make the difference between dieting and changing your way of eating.

If you were a diabetic, you would not have eaten stuff with sugar in it just because you went on a cruise, right?

Or if you had a gluten intolerance, you would not have eaten anything with flour (among other things) just because you went on a cruise.

couldn't get back into it so I switched to Weight watchers
The fact that you "switched" shows that you are treating Atkins as a diet, not as a lifestyle.

I have the books but most of it put me to sleep
Regardless of how much you enjoy reading DANDR, you'll have to decide what you want more: your health or the comfort of old habits.

                            IS this the right one??

                            Dr,Atkins New diet Revolution????
If it's the 2002 edition... yes.

Is what I have been doing somewhere down the line in the book??
Nuts are allowed in OWL Rung 3.

I don't know what's in the ice coffee.

Especially when I have school books to read everyday
Many do. Using that as an excuse does not help you.
