  • Induction not working, alternative diet?

    Hello.

I tried Atkins for 3 weeks and followed the rules of induction (except for a few nuts because I'm vegetarian) and kept within the daily carb limit. After 16 days, I haven't lost a pound. No medications, no excess coffee, no sugar alcohols, nothing. I'm 150lbs trying to drop to 135lbs and am 5'6". I'm thinking of switching to the Carbohydrate Addicts diet, but was hoping for faster results on Atkins. What would you suggest? Perhaps this doesn't work for everybody?

    Thanks!

    Atkins isn't about "fast results".

You could certainly give the other diet a try though.

Since you're a vegetarian, what were you using as your protein source?

It's very difficult to do the Induction phase of Atkins as a vegetarian.

Can you post a complete menu, with quantities and net carbs for all foods?

except for a few nuts because I'm vegetarian
Many people have an intolerance to nuts.

      I'm vegetarian

One inch lost around the waist, but gained in the hips. I'm exercising 3 times/week, cardio and strength. Sources of protein were cheese (hard), eggs, soy shake powder (1g carb/serving) and tofu (with peanut butter, no added sugar). I'm not fan of the artificial soy meats/burgers because they're processed to ****.

Well, you know that peanut butter isn't allowed on Induction.

Thus ... the problem of Induction and protein!

You can make some pretty good tofu protien based "meat" dishes so that shouldn't be a problem neither not using the TVP foods.

the peanuts because of the higher carbs to fat ratio in that "nut" are a bad choice but the rest looks good. Could you use other nuts instead to see if that helped your weight loss.

Is the exercise program a new to your body workout too? if so you could be retaining water weight in your muscles that will leave soon.

Did you eat your atkins as a high fat 65% of your total cals, moderate protein 30% of your total cals and low carb plan as Dr Atkins created it.

According to his office he even treated folk who were vegetarians so you should be able to lose doing it.

are you new to weight loss or are you changing your plan to do a vegetarian atkins? if so then your inital loss from induction eating will be less do to the glycogen reserves being depleted.

One pound gone for you will be over 6% of the needed to lose pounds which would be the same as 9.3 pounds lost for me when I started.

I'm sure you followed Dr Atkins advice but did you see your doc before you started to rule out any medical issues like low thyroid, anemia etc that might slow your weight loss?
