  • Why am I so bloated?!

    Ok so im on the 2nd day of Induction, and i am SO bloated, its horrible!! My stomach sticks out so much I look about 6 months pregnant! I've been following the plan almost to the letter, and drinking lots of water. Has anyone else experienced this or know why its happening? Please tell me it goes away because Im going to give my boyfriend a fright when I see him on Saturday otherwise!!

    Bloating in the first days of Induction can a result of Candida die off.

    Other than that... How many net carbs from vegetables are you eating?

    How much dietary fiber?

    Are you consuming more dietary fiber now than you were pre-Atkins?

      sorry what is Candida? Im a bit new to all this, sitting in bed with the Atkins book as we speak! Im not too sure about the dietary fiber either..

      In terms of veg, I eat 2 cups salad and 1 cup other veg, so yesterday I had 2 cups salad and one cup green beans and today I had 2 cups salad and 1 cup courgette

        It's discussed in Chapter 25 in your copy of DANDR 2002.

        Some symptoms of Candida die off are bloating, fatigue, gas, diarrhea or constipation, headache, nausea.

        Im not too sure about the dietary fiber
        Are you using FitDay to track your foods?

        And another question... are you sure you are not overeating protein? Are approximately 65% of your calories coming from fat?

          Ok i went and read the chapter about Candida, it wouldnt surprise me if this was the problem.. i just hope it dosnt last too long as im still really bloated today. Infact im more bloated now (lunch time) then when i woke up this morning!

          Im not using fitday im writting all my foods down in a diary.. im not sure about overeating protein, yesterday my food menu was:

          B: Bacon & Egg
          S: Cheese & Olives
          L: 2 Sausages & Zuchini noodles
          S: Cauliflower crisps made with 1 egg, cauliflower & cheese
          D: Beef burger, 1 slice of bacon, 1 slice of cheese & salad (lettuce)

          although after a second look I realise im eating allot of cheese & meat, no more cheese than the allowed daily intake but It does say in the book to eliminate cheese if you suffer from Candida. any ideas? does it look like too much fiber?x

            What did you have for breakfast?

            Without amounts and net carbs, it's impossible to say.

            And we'd need to know how you made the zuchini noodles or what was in the salad (other than lettuce).

            I'd suggest you enter some menus in FitDay and see where you stand.

            Also take a look at your sodium intake. I'm guessing it's quite high.

            It does say in the book to eliminate cheese if you suffer from Candida.
            I wouldn't do it for now... especially if your problem is Candida die off.

            You might also have an intolerance to one of the foods you are eating. Are you varying your menu each day?

            What are the ingredients in the sausage?

            Did you check the ingredients in the burgers?

              I see you have sausage on your menu....read the ingredients and the nutritional info to see the amount of sodium. It could be you are retaining water from the excessive sodium. Same goes for the bacon and even the olives.

              Cut back on those high salt foods and see if that decreases your bloating. If not, then see a doctor.

                Salt is high on my list of explaining bloating
                Next is getting my period. I seriously bloat when that is about to happen

                  were you eating those same veggies and other foods before you started doing Atkins? if not you maybe intolerance of one or more of them.
                  or it could be yeast dieoff as Georgiana mentioned. you aren't consuming any foods with artificial sweetners are you? they can cause bloating as your intestinal bacteria have a field day eating them.

                  Are you doing any aerobic exercise
