  • How do you use your 20 net carbs?

    hey everyone....
I was having a hard time coming up with the 20 net carbs per day (or at least coming close to it).
Can you guys post an example of 1 day of what you eat during induction? That would help alot. Also what do you do for the sugar cravings? So far, I have discovered a decaf Celestrial Sugar Cookie tea that I'll have if I am craving sugar....of course, with 1 splenda.....it has no calories/fat/sugar/carbs...

Please help, I want to do this right!
    THANK YOU!!!

    cup of roasted pumpkin
some gucamole, avocadoes, some tomato and cucumber. Frozen =P good stuff. gooooood stuff.

My suggestion would be to NOT have the tea ... all it's doing is keeping your cravings alive.

Remember that Splenda is still restricted on induction! So while the amount you use is fine, just don't believe it has no effects so you can use as much as you like later.

Cauliflower! I find that most of my carbs (and dietary fiber) come from those yummy "Just Like Stuffed Baked Potatoes" from Linda's site. This week there's been a little carbs from the sticks of "Pepperettes" I eat as a snack (I limit 5 a day), and from the pork rind "breading" on my chicken.

However, your carbs should indeed come from veggies primarily, as I've read here and in the book. Everyone is very helpful on here, and if you get time, I would look through the forums. They are invaluable for information on this journey. Even though they don't know it, Georgina, liv, Sham, J, Alexa and many more have helped me, just because of reading through here!

Sometimes, I find that I might not want a salad, or I forget to pack sliced veggies for my snacks while I'm on the go. I find that the cauliflower dish helps a lot! I'd take a look at the site to see if there are some induction recipes with veggies you would like! Remember anything with a * is listed there as suitable for induction. it has no calories/fat/sugar/carbs
All tea has carbs. On American labels, if the carbs per serving are less than 0.5 g, they'll be rounded down to 0. For tea, the carbs depend on the volume of water used.

You can check the USDA database for carb counts:

It wouldn't really help, since you don't necessarily like the foods I am eating. Plus, I'm in Pre-Maintenance, so...

If you post a complete menu of yours, we could take a look and maybe make some suggestions.

I guess I can give it a go for the one day. Mind you, I wouldn't eat the Pepperettes I am right now, as I think there was something weird with the formula (I am wondering now about some of the stuff that were placed in them). I plan on making my own jerky soon when I can find a jerky extractor around here (since I already own an Excalibur dehydrator).

On a normal day when I have time, I usually eat:

                -4 Pepperettes (meat stick snacks)
                -2 Liveactive marble cheese snacks

-"Breaded" chicken cutlet (from Linda's site)
                -Just Like Stuffed Baked Potatoes

-Chicken caesar salad, sometimes veggies and cheese, etc.

You do know that 20 net is the max not the required, right?

I used pumpkin as part of my 1 cup other veggies and peppers from my 2-3 cup veggies.
We also need to remember that Dr Atkins counted all cheese as one gram of carb per ounce when he designed the plan so even though cheddar has .28 grams of carbs per ounce we need to count it as 1.0
He also said to count each packet of sweetner as a gram of carb DANDR 2002 chapter 11 rule 9

so if one had 3 packets a day and 4 ounces of cheese that is 7 of our 20 grams of carbs right there.

add the veggies (and remeber at least 1/2 of your total has to come from them so it better be at least 11 of you are having 20 net for the day), eggs, spices and herbs, plus any other source like coffee or tea and you are very close to the 20 gram limit.

Dewolfe, I roast a big piece in the oven at 180, for an hour and a half. Might seem a long time for pumpkin but its SO worth it.
the edges darken little (slight black), but it doesn't at the least bit taste burnt, if anything those edges give it a more sweet flavor,
SO good. And if you wanted you could put some butter withh it =P or flatten in and fry in up with some butter and spices and make a pumpkin pattie.
