I've been a regular jogger for a while, and I'm very familiar with my level of strength/endurance. I've noticed that since starting induction, my heart rate has gotten up much faster and higher than it usually does. Yesterday, while jogging, I had to keep slowing down to let my heart rate come back to a normal pace (below 169 bpm). Usually, while jogging, I have to PUSH myself to get my heart rate high enough. This was pretty unusual and a little disturbing. When at rest, my heart is pumping HARDER but definitely not FASTER. Is this something any of you experienced? I made it the 3 miles, but I was totally exhausted when I got back. Usually I catch my breath and feel just fine.

I am not sure about your heart but the first week I was on Atkins I was really tired because I had withdrawl symptoms and felt sick but now I have more energy than ever. If you just started give it a while about the energy.

Maybe it's because your muscles are depleted of glycogen, which is only relevant on induction. That exhausts your muscles sooner. Besides, if you want to lose weight, you keep a slightly elevated heart rate, but not an aerobic one. If you consume around 30-40 carbs/day, It might change it. Hope this helps.

Give your body a chance to convert to burning ketones efficiently, and your past performance should return in time (2-3 weeks). You body is going through a somewhat major change as you've been told as all the bodies quick store of fuel in glycogen is now gone. It now has to anticipate the fuel requirements better. It will get better - we have a lot of runners, bikers, and other cardio fans on here that regularly exercise on Atkins.Kent - 35-M-6'4"

induction is limited to 20 carbs per day, no exceptions. If your eating 30-40 carbs during induction your not doing atkins.Originally posted by ddevicenteMaybe it's because your muscles are depleted of glycogen, which is only relevant on induction. Allow your body time to adjust to a fat burning metabolism... but stick to the rules of induction, otherwise your body will be totally confused and will resist. Just remember to drink a lot of water and you'll have more energy and be able to run those 3 miles easy peasy :joyF 24 5'10 SW - 217 GW 170 restarted atkins 1/14/08 - This time I'm sticking with it!

your body is not going to the fat burning fast enough and being low on glucose adrenalin is being pumped out and your heart responds. Give yourself time to get all the fatburning equipment transfer molecules and other enzyms in place and you will be wondering how you ever functioned with out your fats before.
