  • Confused about dairy

I'm confused why you can't have dairy during the 14 day induction or ongoing induction. I just finished my 14 day induction and lost 15 pounds!! HORRAY!! I would like to continue with ongoing induction and I was looking at Bryers low carb ice cream at the store and I was wondering if something like that will slow me down or would it be alright if I count the 4 net carbs and eat like I have been?

You can have dairy ... butter, cream, sour cream, cheese.

    Rule # 4 of Induction:

"dairy products other than cheese, cream or butter."

    >>I was looking at Bryers low carb ice cream at the store>>

Is that on the Acceptable foods for Induction list?

        Hi Chippy,
No, it is not all right. And another way to look at it, besides it not being on the Induction Acceptable Foods List, is this:

Unless you have the will power of steel, first it starts with a serving of low carb ice cream. Next it is two servings. Temptation starts growing...next time it is a little Chocolate syrup that has been sitting in the fridge door staring at you lately. You get weaker...there is a food day at the office and everyone brings in the sweet version of what they call "food"...brownies, donuts, coffeecake...and then you can not resist, and that is it...total out of control carb attack! Then you go for weeks and weeks keep saying you will re start tomorrow, and then the day after that, and so on, and so, on....

...so step away from the ice cream ...just slooooowly step back, hands in the air....now drop that spoon!

Was it worth that cup of Bryer's?

There's milk in the ingredients, which would make it appropriate only for OWL Rung 2.

I still wouldn't eat it three times a week (that's how often you eat a new food in OWL)... or even every week. Your aim on OWL is to eat nutritious carbohydrate-containing foods, not to satisfy your sweet tooth with "legal" products.

And you start OWL with more vegetables, not with diary.

          Are you reading the book?

and eat like I have been?
You should not eat "like you have been" in OWL.

You should add back nutritious foods.

              Re: Confused about dairy

You can always make an induction-legal ice cream for an occasional dessert

Just check the ingredients against the allowed foods list and enjoy!
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

Absolutely for me too! hehe I know how that path goes cause I have been down it too many times.

yeah, its hard to know sometimes when items say "low carb" on them whether or not you can have them. I just look at the ingredients, watch for sugar (all of the names for it) and check the nutrition facts. Make sure you have your induction acceptable foods list with you, so you can really get to know your ingredients allowed when shopping.

Like Elizellen said, you can always make some sort of ice cream using your allotted heavy cream, splenda, and flavorings...I am sure there are recipes somewhere around here for that.

                      Re: Confused about dairy

induction is about learning to be strict with ourselves so while fresh dairy is out until OWL rung 2all aged cheese and fresh cream in limited amounts are induction legal so dairy is part of induction.

Too bad you finished induction before you ask about dairy cuase we have a great recipe for induction legal ice cream called ziplock baggie ice cream.
You even get some exercise making it.
you put your cream and sweetner and whatever you are using for flavor be it a spice, DaVinci syrup or sugar free extract in a small ziplock baggie and seal it up. Put it insode a bigger ziplock baggie then add ice and water to the larger ziplock bagie and some salt rock or even table salt will do. seal it up and shake it till it freezes like ice cream. you can't make it in advance cause it will freeze rock hard so you make it as you need it.

Thanks for the advice and reciple for induction friendly ice cream. I actually helped my kids make ice cream like that last summer at camp. I'm happy we have this website because I would've gone off the deep end with the so called low carb snack.
