  • Will it ever happen

This is my millionth time starting atkins after losing weight, cheating, and starting all over.. I've messed up tons of times on this diet but something has got to change. I am 20 years old and about 100 pounds overweight. I am depressed and ashamed of myself. Luckily, I am tall (5'10) so I don't look as much as I weigh but now is the time to change. My 21st birthday is coming up in the middle of May which was always a big deal to me and I just wanted to look great but weight loss is going to take time. So as long as I have lost some weight by then I will be happy. By next year I hope to be my goal weight. I just am weak sometimes... i get depressed and food is the only comfort. I would do much better if I had support from someone or a diet buddy.

Anyways, today is my first day back on atkins. I will check back in to see if I've lost any weight ... I am about 260 now... my highest ever.

    God Bless.

I'm going to post before pics tonight!

welcome back to atkins. take your measurements so you can see the inches of body fat you shed too. helps when the scales lie about your fat loss.

You don't have to restart cause you eat off plan. just do a few days of induction level eating to get back to ketosis and then go back to where ever you were in OWL before you binged off plan.

I'm in your shoes atkinsgirl...I know how you feel...I am 100 lbs overweight myself and its so hard to stay on track...I have done atkins so many times but this time its here to stay..I have a 3 year old son now, so being healthy is priority for me...We can all be your buddies...I am on induction day 5 and today was loaded with temptations, and I get down and think "Its not FAIR!!" "how come I cant eat what everyone else does???" but I just suck it up and my new way to avoid the temptation is to do something with my lil boy...go outside with him or read a book or CLEAN..HAHA my house it sparkling this week trying to avoid temptations.. Good Luck and remember we are all in this together and if you are feeling down...go to the Before and After pics forum..that always reassures me what I'm doing is right.

Hey atkinsgirl. I feel your struggles. I am also 20 years old. I have done low carb so many times. I always lose a few pounds easily and then fall off the wagon. Now I am at my highest weight ever and am finally serious about losing, yet now I cannot even lose a pound! I got serious on the 1st of Jan, and I haven't lost an ounce yet. I AM going to stay strong. Good things take times and LOTS OF HARD WORK!! we can do this together!!

Hannah have you posted your menus for the boardies to check out? Sounds like something is not quite right. Better to find out what needs changed now so you can move forward.

            yea here is yesterdays menu..

            http://fitday.com/fitness/FoodLog.ht...ate=1264118400.

I am pretty sure that the problem was that I was cooking too fancy of recipes. Now I am back to basics. Just plain eating. When I cook extravagant meals I don't portion it out. But those days are over.

You need to make your FitDay profile public first. You can do this from the Profile tab. It will give you a link to your public page... and then you can post that here.

That's something that often slows down one's metabolism.

Have you been tracking your foods starting January 1st?

You are few net carbs from vegetables... so you are probably missing various nutrients from your diet... which will further slow down your metabolism.

There's nothing wrong with lettuce... but there are more nutritious vegetables.

Is the cheese you are using real cheddar? If it is, then you should use the entry for "Cheese, natural, Cheddar or American type".

How much water are you drinking?

Are you measuring foods properly, not just estimating?

                    Are you exercising?

                    Are you taking any medication?

Are you taking an iron-free multivitamin?

No, I haven't. I have been cooking extravagant induction friendly meals, and I think that is the problem. I think I have been eating WAY too many calories. And, I know now to avoid sour cream, heavy whipping cream, flax meal, cream cheese, any sweeteners, and any processed foods. It's got to be fresh meats, cheeses, and veggies.

any veggies that aren't green seem to stall me, like pumpkin and cauliflower. So I have been just keeping it simple. But I definitely understand what you are saying.

                        Re: Will it ever happen

I was overweight from the time I was a chubby kid in pre-school until I finally found success with Atkins in my 50's. I was bribed with money and clothes by my family in the name of losing weight.

Atkins was the plan I had been looking for. It had foods I would eat and prepare. It allowed me to avoid going to public meetings although I found OA to be something that could give me a safe environment. I could plan my menus and commit to Atkins. And the more I lost, the more of an Atkins zealot I became.

I never knew how healthy young people lived, but I feel younger than I've ever felt and happier. People here know the pain you feel and are supportive. Just follow DANDR 2002 and I know that you will find your answer to follow Atkins and stick with it. That is the key and Atkins gives you the tools to move on with your life.

                        Best wishes.

What's a "stall" to you? How long do you wait before you "panic" and start tweaking?

Not yet. I haven't found a sufficient one yet.
What do you mean by "sufficient"?

Senior and men formulas generally have no iron.

I use One a Day Womens 50+ advantage. No you don't have to over 50 to take it. Has no iron and fits into the Atkins plan.

Thanks for some of your posts it really cheered me up and made me not feel so down on myself because I know people are going through the same thing I am. I went to the doctor and he said even though you don't look like you need to lose that much weight you need too. My father is diabetic and has heart problems. I don't want to be like him... I see how many pills and insulin shots he has to take and it breaks my heart.
