  • Sugar alcohols

Hi all, I was interested in some info about sugar alcohols. I am not planning on eating any sugar free maple syrup on induction, but was looking through my cupboard at labels and came across my bottle of syrup. It lists 13 grams carbs with 13 grams sugar alcohol. At some point when I do eat syrup again what does the sugar alcohol mean for carb counting? I tried looking for info online but did not come across anything particularly helpful. I know that sugar alcohols are not always good for people, but I have never had an issue with this particular maple syrup (not like a really bad experience I had with sugar free jelly belly's a couple years ago. Nasty!). Just wondering and curious... Thanks!!

Actually, I don't have a reason to eat s/f syrup ... haven't found a reason to pour "chemical soup" on good food!

    Something to think about!

      Re: Sugar alcohols

My take on sugar alcohols is this.
If they give me the bathroom effect then they are passing through my body and (if I want the trauma of spending all night on the loo) I can ignore the carb counts.
If they do not affect me adversely then my body is processing them like ordinary sugar so I need to account for all those pesky carbs!

So I tend not to use products with them in
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

I'm with Elizellen, anything that gives us the trots has something very wrong with it. Of course all things in limitation, so when you get to that rung, a little bit won't hurt.

In terms of carb count - now that is a bit unclear. Many people would not count the sugar alchols so your concoction would have zero carb or maybe 0.5 carb. BUT many people believe that some of the carbs may be absorbed so it may be safer to count. The American Diabetes association came out with a recommendation count half the carbs so that would mean 6.5 for your syrup
