  • Struggling with breakfast

I'm 6 days into induction and down 7 lbs. I'm struggling with breakfast choices, though. I don't want to eat another egg for a long time lol, I am sick of them already. Pretty much I eat 1 piece of string cheese or nothing at all. I really do need to eat something for breakfast, but I'm just used to eatinjg cereal or oatmeal. Would I be allowed to make some 'oatmeal' out of flaxmeal? If so, would this be any everyday thing that I'd be allowed to eat?

    Thanks

    Hey Manda,

    Welcome!

Who said you have to eat eggs for breakfast???
You can eat anything off the acceptable Induction food list that you want.

Today I had leftover chicken with grape tomatoes and some bacon.

Yesterday I had leftover salmon with grape tomatoes and again a bit of bacon.

I had a portion of Linda's Chicken and Spinach Casserole with some sour cream on top the day before.

Be creative! I think so many times people think breakfast has to be something sweet like crereal or oatmeal. It can be last nights leftovers.

Breakfast today for me is chicken and asparagus :lol

Yesterday it was fresh ground sausage an omlett with mushrooms, onions, and black olives topped with cheese and salsa. Fried up some some left over steak from the night before too!

Another thing I like to do for breakfast to get my veggies is fry up some butter in a pan and cook spinach leaves in it for abotu 1 minute until they get soft. Sprinkle on soem salt n pepper yummy! Mix in some sausage with that and I think that would be pretty darn good.

Celery with cream cheese is also a fav.

Make a iced coffee drink those are good too. Decaf coffee, heavy whipping cream with 1 pack of stevia in it. Mix the coffee with ice and top with whip cream...boy that saves the day for me when I need a treat!

if you are using flax as your fiber supplement then yep you can eat flax cereal made like oatmeal for breakfast BUT you should know the more you stir or let it sit the more like raw egg texture flax will get.

As the others said you can eat anything that is legal for your phase for any meal so their is no need to ever eat an egg again unless you like them and want to.

          Check this out:

It is induction-legal if you omit the nuts & stay within your cheese/sweetener limits for the day. It also helps you start getting your veggies in early

I have gotten used to the texture, but if it really bothers you, try using 2 parts flax meal to 1 part protein whey isolate.

              Re: Struggling with breakfast

Since I never ate breakfast before this diet (so common with overweight people) I have been training myself to eat within an hour after my shower.

I'm not used to typical breakfast foods, so I haven't worried about that - today I had a piece of baked chicken and a portion of my day's allowance of my string beans which I sauted in a small piece of bacon last night ahead of time for breakfast. I just nuked the greenbeans and ate the chicken cold (love it that way) and it was just delicious!

I suspect that if you will insist to your brain that you don't "need" your common breakfast foods, you will eventually find that you really don't miss them so much anymore.

I, too, have eaten so many eggs that I'm afraid I've restocked my own physical supply and am no longer post-menopausal might end up preggers *LOL*

You don't have to have eggs for breakfast (or at all if you don't want to). Try thinking out of the box a little. I haven't eaten eggs for a long time for breakfast. I usually buy a couple heads of lettuce a week and bring several large leaves with me along with some slices of turkey and some mayo (turkey and lettuce roll ups!) for breakfast.

If you like toast, try making up some oopsie rolls from this recipe to toast up and spread some butter on: The Lighter Side of Low-Carb: Gluten-free, low-carb buns (aka Oopsie rolls)

Have you checked out Linda's low carb recipe site? Linda's Low Carb Menus & Recipes - Recipes

There are a lot of good recipes on there. I'm sure you can find something you'll enjoy for breakfast.

Warmed up leftovers aren't bad when you have something that tastes great. Check out some of the recipes on Linda's site. Some of them are great for freezing (quiches) and don't lose any of their pizazz when warmed back up.

                    Re: Struggling with breakfast

Sometimes i have salad for brkfst ... as simple as diced cucumbers + tomatoes + scallions or lettuce based salad + vegetables with feta cheese.

Crustless quiche is one of my favorite things 4 bkfst, sometimes roasted vegetables (or sauteed) w/ or w/o parmesan cheese.

Veggie crust pizza works well too.
Here's a great recipe which works w/ zucchinni and/or kohlrahbi instead of the cauliflower or any combination of the three ( use whatever i have at home or whatevre was on sale that week) http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...-friendly.html

Salmon roll ups- mix cream cheese w/ herbs - place sm amt on salmon and roll

Also tunafish, this is good rolled in Romaine lettuce leaves or just w/ cucumbers and tomatoes on the side.

I prefer non meat bkfsts and all of the above things work well as snacks too.

                      Re: Struggling with breakfast

I know you said you were sick of eggs but I had to share this recipe (which I picked up somewhere on this site)

                      1/2 cup grated cooked cauliflower
                      1 egg
                      pinch of dried oregano/basil
                      1 TBSP parmesean cheese

I beat the egg, mix in the rest of the ingredients and pan fry it in some butter. Really tastes like hash brown.
