  • How many grams of carbs should come from veggies?

I'm sure I read on a thread on here (but I can't seem to find it now) that at least 9g of my carbs need to come from vegetables. Is this true or is it more?

I thought it was most of your 20 grams is supposed to come from veggies... according to the 2002 version of the book. It's in the induction chapter...

Over half of your daily net carbs should come from vegetables. Since you are likely to get the best nutrition from your diet by consuming close to 20 net carbs per day... and there is no good reason to undereat your net carbs since 20 net carbs is the level at which almost everyone will get the benefits of Induction... then assuming you are consuming 20 net carbs per day, you should be getting more than 10 of them from vegetables.

Thanks! Right now I eat about 10g-11g of veggies. I guess I am not picking ones that have a a higher (but not too high) carb count. I find it easy for my "non" salad veggies but harder for the salad veggies.

That's net carbs, right? Not total carbs.

For salad veggies... do you like peppers? You could make a quiche or a frittata with red, yellow or orange peppers.

Or you could stuff them with some cheese or a cheese combo.

Or add some to your salad.

          Have you tried jicama?

              This might help:

I did see one google reference that it's not known in England, but don't know if it's true or not.

That was me answering another poster in another thread, who listed having eaten 18g net total carb for the day. I asked that particular poster if 9g net for the day had come from her listed veggies.

Afraid not as far as I know
A couple of years ago I did discover an importer locally in dorset whose website listed it but on further contact with them I was told that they would only get it in if I could guarantee a regular bulk order of several crates a month so I abandoned the idea.

London might be a possibility if you had contacts with the big veg markets.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

Thanks everyone. I am going to see if I can find some jicima. I looked on Shrew2U's blog and found some good ideas of how to incorporate different kinds of veggies by splitting them up into smaller portions. I feel great and appreciate everyone's support.
