  • Second Induction Day, Can't eat enough! =(

This will be my third day in induction. No ketosis yet but maybe that takes longer. I've been eating eggs, omelets (yum ^_^), and beef along with broccoli and cucumbers each of these days but I still can only eat barely 1000 calories a day. It's not that I fear calories, I just don't get hungry even after working out with cardio!

Not sure what I can do to add the carbs. By the way I can't eat any cheeses, not even cream cheese for health reasons. =( Anything I can do to raise my calorie intake?

Are you preparing your meals with butter and/or olive oil? Add 1/2 an avocado each day, as well, to add more fat. Using dressings to dip your meat/veggies in also increases your fat intake.

As an aside - as far as vegetables go, try to expand beyond broccoli and cucumber. Example: you could stir-fry some meat, chicken or shrimp in peanut oil with red cabbage, yellow bell pepper and mushrooms for a good variety of veggies that taste great together.

Shrew gave you some great ideas.

As for being in ketosis... don't rely on Ketostix. You can be in ketosis without changing their color.

        Mmm... Bell pepper..

Great ideas, thanks! I'll try olive oil next time I'm in the kitchen, hopefully I don't burn kitchen down. =P
BTW how many days does ketosis usually take?

You mean, getting in ketosis? Typically a few... 2-4.

your loss of appetite in your first post says you are in ketosis no matter what any stix say. COngrats on getting there.

Since you don't have an appetite listen to your body for signs it is hungry and then feed it accordingly. If you are not hungry you don't need toi add more foods to your eating.

We don't have to eat 20 net grams of carbs during induction. that is the max not the mandatory amount and since you don't eat cheese yours will naturally be lower then those who do. 1/2 your total net has to come from your veggies so if you are eating 12 net carbs then at least 7 of them must be from your veggies. if you eat 15 then at least 8 have to come from your veggies and so on. There are lots of healthy and helpful for weight loss micronutrients in the legal induction veggies every thign from vit C to Calcium so it is to our advantage to eat our full 3 cups when we are hungry but if you aren't them be sure you are supplementing with a good quality supplement or two.

Gah! I screwed up today and ate some wheat thins and two gingersnap cookies! DX I dunno why either.

Meh, tomorrow's another day. I'll have some scrambled eggs in the morning. BTW is it okay to eat a hamburger patty or is that too greasy? Just don't want to clog my arteries. My health is much but my cholestrol is a tad bit high. (just a smidge).

Anything to bring it down? BTW almost all of my carbs come from veggies.

You need to figure it out ... so you don't repeat it.

                >>s it okay to eat a hamburger patty or is that too greasy? J>>

                Yes, it's fine.

Are you reading Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution? Do you understand that eating Atkins should lower your cholesterol? That it's the wheat thins and the cookies that are affecting it more than the hamburger?

                Fat.

For the times when although you don't feel hungry for on-plan food you do feel able to eat off-plan food you need to make sure you have some extra yummy 'legal' food to eat instead of the 'illegal' stuff!

Try to work out what it was about those wheat thins and cookies that made you choose them. Are you wanting crunchy? Maybe you could make some flax crackers or cheese crackers to fill that want?
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

everytime I want crackers it because of the salt. I fix this by eating a salad with vinegar and oil on the side to dip in. I think it so hard at time becuase we crave different textures. I flew off the handle last night because no one else has to diet but me and all I wanted was to eat corn. Got better after I nibbled on some mushrooms and cheese though. at the time I was not happy but this morning am down 2.6 pds.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll try to find some flax crackers. I think it was because I really wanted something crunchy and tasty and with fiber. Perhaps that'll work. oh and I have the book now. ^_^

You don't need to find them. You make them.

Fiber... in wheat thins and gingersnap cookies?

For other crunchy, tasty stuff with fiber, you could try red/orange peppers, jicama slices or celery.

You can make chips from eggplant, pumpkin or celeriac (celery root).

Lol yes I have trouble reasoning when I crave random things. My mind seems to make all kinds of silly justifications to do it. I just saw the box in the dorm room, it said fiber on the back and I was like "FIBER!!!" *munch*
