  • Headache

So I'm on day 2, not hungry in the least but since yesterday (around noon on day 1) I started getting a headache similar to those that you get when you have high blood pressure and you stand up. Kind of a full swimmy headed feeling that lasts for about 10 seconds then goes away until the next time I stand up. I have had high blood pressure in the past but it has been well controlled for quite some time now. I didn't initially equate this to being on Atkins but I mentioned it to a coworker & she thought it may have something to do with it. I don't know if this could be one of the side effects of "coming off carbs" or what. Just wondering if anyone else had this happen early on in the induction. It doesn't have anything to do with my water intake b/c for a couple months now I have been a big water drinker, as in 100-120 oz a day.
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

    Re: Headache

Since you are on day 2, you are probably having the so-called "Induction flu"... as your body is transitioning from using glucose to using fatty acids as its main source of fuel.

Are you eating every few hours?

    Are you eating enough calories?

Are you eating meals that combine fat, protein and some veggie carbs?

Are you eating all your vegetables... not just lettuce?

Are over half of your net carbs coming from vegetables?

      Re: Headache

Hi Georgiana! Thanks for responding. In response to your questions I'm eating less than 6 hrs apart every time. I'm eating approx 1800 calories which is amazing to me since I've always been a calorie counter. I'm eating veggies & meat at every meal unless I have a snack & then its usually just some boiled eggs & a slice of bacon, aslo I'm spreading my cheese consumption throughout the day instead of in just one meal. I'm eating lots of veggies: lettuce, cucumbers, alfalfa sprouts & mushrooms mostly but I did have half of an avocado yesterday. I am having a bit of a hard time getting all my carbs in I will say. After subtracting the dietary fiber I'm coming in around 16 but yes that is more than half thanks to my veggies. If I was a soft drink or coffee drinker I would most def contribute the headache to coming off that but I've been off those for well over a month now. My headache wasn't quite as bad today & I have much more energy today than yesterday, man I didn't think I would make it home from work I was so sleepy.
All in all day 3 was MUCH better than day 2!

Hi Bretta ! Sounds like you are right on track, including the "flu" I'm afraid. Some people get it worse than others, but at least you know you're doing things right Best wishes on your journey.
