  • I cheated, I ate chocolate :-( Started again today

OK no excuses, my own fault, was weak. We had a power cut it was dark, but too early to go to bed, I was sooo bored. In front of me was some chocolates from christmas. I cant lie, I ate them. Besides the fact I was bored, I know the reasons I ate them. I had been trying so very hard on this diet, and was told last night that my protein is still too high and it should be around 20-25%. Im not blaming anyone, but I think I just got to the point of, oh god, Ive been doing it wrong all this time........so I have started again today and even more determined. My protein will be 20-25% and I will reduce my cheese intake as I was advised. Hopefully this time I will lose weight.

thanks for listening, I had to tell someone lol

Re: I cheated, I ate chocolate :-( Started again today

Sandra, when you say 'started again' I hope you do not mean 'starting to re-count my 14 days of induction again from today'. Just restart eating to plan and continue to count your induction days as before. So if yesterday was day 6 today is day 7 and so on.

It is only if you have been eating totally off-plan for a few weeks that you would need to start your 14 day again

I am wondering where you got the impression that your protein should be 20-25%? Mostly people tend to aim for something nearer 30% on Atkins.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

      Hi

I posted yesterday that I hadnt lost any weight still. I was told that when the forum looked at my food on fitday they thought because I hadnt got loads to lose that my protein should be 20-25%, and I should eat less cheese.

      thanks San x

Elizellen is right about counting days, Sandra. There's no way to re-do day 1. That's gone... so you just continue.

Ive been doing it wrong all this time
In your case, it's not about doing it right or wrong... it's about making some tweaks that might help.

With 7 lbs that you want to lose and already a healthy BMI of 22.1, your weight loss will be slow. If you are comparing how fast you're losing with how fast someone who has 50 or 100 lbs to lose is losing, you're only setting yourself up for disappointment. 5 lbs lost for one with 100 lbs to lose is 5% of one's excess weight. For you, 10% would only be 0.35 lbs.

I think it would be much better for you if you focused on the benefits of Atkins other than weight loss. Freaking out whenever your menu might need to be tweaked or whenever the scale didn't move for 20 days (especially since you were on medication), will not help you make Atkins a lifestyle. At your weight, weight loss might happen... or not. And if it happens, it might happen tomorrow... or a month from now.

I see - actually I read the comments from Georgiana to mean that she thought that you were eating too much protein rather than that your ratios were wrong. I haven't looked into the theory of how many grams of protein someone of a certain weight should be eating on a lowcarb way of eating, but I know some people do like to follow that theory.

I have found that eating on induction to the allowed foods list and to appetite worked out at about a 30% protein figure for me. However if you are close to your ideal weight then you might be at the stage where you need to look at restricting your calories as well and eat closer to your likely BMR (basal metabolic rate) than most people on induction do.

I notice that you are not logging any exercise into your fitday account. If you are exercising then your calorie needs would be greater than if you are not exercising.

Maybe you can add some info to your signature showing your height, start, current and goal weight to give us an idea of where you are in your weightloss progress.

Re: I cheated, I ate chocolate :-( Started again today

One small 'nitpicky' detail that might be throwing your numbers at fitday out slightly is that I see you are using fitday's generic entry for 'mayonnaise, regular'. I use Hellmans fullfat mayo and noticed that the numbers for fitday's mayo are out by almost double the carb count of Hellman's.
For 100g (108mls) of Hellmans the carb count is 1.5 carbs but for fitday's 'regular' mayo 100g shows as being 2.7 carbs - quite a difference if you have a fair bit of mayo.
By my reckoning, the carb count for 4 tablespoons (60mls/55.6gr) of Hellmans mayo is 0.83 carbs, not the 2.2 carbs fitday shows!

BTW if by chance you happen to be using Hellman's light mayo then you need to adjust your custom food entry for this as your entry shows 0 carbs for a 45 gr serving, but according to their own website
            http://www.hellmanns.co.uk/en_uk/products/light-mayonnaise.aspx
there are 6.5 carbs per 100 grams, meaning with every 2 tablespoons you would be eating 1.8 carbs

This is why I much prefer the UK style of labels which list the nutrition numbers for a larger amount so we can calculate exactly how many carbs are in one tablespoon, whereas the US labels allow them to list zero when there can be up to 0.49999 carbs per tablespoon!

Sorry I seem to have gone off-thread here, I hope I have not upset or confused you completely

                20-25% is a good start.

hey there we do not restart we just keep going. 14 day Induction isn't punishmentr for screwing up.

I saw your fitday and your topic. I have to say you are doing what I did back in 2002 when I had my first stall. I listened to and followed the advice from everybody and screwed up muy atkins to the point it didn't look nothing like what I'd used to lose the weight before the stall so I undid all the changes to my eating cause it wasn't an eating issue it was a medical issue.

I don't know who told your 20-25% but they are dead wrong! Dr Atkins set the protein at 30% and it does not change from induction to goal eating. That does not mean you have to have every meal every day with 30% protein. I saw your fit day and it looked good even the huge protein intake day which looked like you were very hungry that day cause you had more fats that day too.

You also stopped a medication on Monday so you are going to feel some changes as your body adjusts to being off that med and in ketosis.

So you need to eat a clean few days having your 3 cups of legal veggies with high fats and moderate protein and then move to OWL by adding 5 more net grams of those yummy veggies to your meal plan.

That does not mean you eat the same meal from induction plus the veggies. that means you eat a few bites less of your proteins and fats cause you are having a few more bites of veggies. We still stop when our hunger is satisfied even if we got food on the plate, room in our belly and/or carbs in the budget.

                  Hang in there

Are you still on Induction? If you've finished the 14 days and have 7 pounds left to lose, I would suggest you move to OWL phase rather than try to lose it all on Induction.
