Hi Jay, :wave

I understand the feeling - I got on the scale one day and I weighed in at a whopping 287 pounds, that was just eight weeks ago.

Since that time I've lost three inches off my waist and three inches off my chest, my weights down a few pounds (I lose slowly) and I've gone from not being able to walk around the block without breaking into a sweat to walking three and some times four miles a day, with weights. I owe it all to Atkins and I've really just started.

Years ago I lost forty pounds on Atkins, drifted off course and of course gained it all back plus an additional thirty. I learned my lesson, now maybe you have too.

Jay, you've had a wake-up call and the party is officially over.

You can save your life here Jake, you really can. You can lose the weight and get yourself in the best physical and emotional state of health and well being that you've ever been in - in your life.

It's ridiculously easy, all you need is your copy of Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution known around here as DANDR , don't even think about trying to do Atkins without it.

Print out the acceptable foods list for Induction and hit the supermarket. Toss in some exercise, use this board for all the support you need 24/7 365 days a year and you'll do it Jay - you'll win at this, guaranteed.

Sometimes a person needs a big whack of reality in the face to fully realize that they need to do something, and I hope this was truly your 'light bulb' moment. I've been there, it's not fun, but it's the first step.

One thing to think about and accept is that every single thing you do, whether it's choosing to eat a particular food, or choosing to get out and walk/exercise, all adds up.

All the little changes, like stopping at 2 servings instead of going on to three out of habit instead of hunger, or parking 10 spots away from where you need to be and walking, or choosing to take the stairs instead of the elevator...or walking up the escalator....I could go on and on, but you know what I mean...they all matter and they all count! Trust me, I know all this from experience.

Every time I would do something like this I would give myself mental pats on the backs...because all of these things were not 'normal' to me..they were not part of my normal mindless day and I wanted to make every change I made into a positive empowering experience. It worked for me, and perhaps it'll work for you.

Besides, it's fun to celebrate things...no matter how big or how small, and I tell you, I haven't felt pride in myself for a lotttttta years..and it's a pretty darn good feeling. :yes

On the flip side, the 'oh I'll have just one bite and stop' attitude is pretty much, as Dr. Atkins put it "the kiss of failure". A person may stop at one bite (many don't though :no ) but a bite here, and a bite there all adds up, and a person isn't nurturing better eating habits by these little nibbles, are they?

When a person has an illegal food in their hand, they can CHOOSE whether to eat it or not...it's as simple as that. Stay in the moment, ask yourself what this food is going to do for you. If you can't come up with a reason that relates to your goals, then pitch it. You don't need that monkey on your back anymore. YOU have the power here, not the food.

I hope some of this helps... :hug

You guys are all right, Jay listen to everyone on here, we have been where you are right now, for me it was about a week ago. In Feb. I weighed 276, i stepped on the scale the other day and I weight 290! Where did the 15 lbs. come from?????? Heck, when I met my husband about four years ago I weight somewhere around 150. I gained 140 pounds in three years, that is 47 lbs a year, that is four lbs a month. I looked at myself one more time and said I would NEVER be this big again in my life! EVER. Im on day three of induction and it does get easier, it does help to track your menu and carbs, as a matter of fact, you have to. And it helps if you have open access to a computer to be on here as often as possible. Just last night I thought I was gonna cave for sure, so I found someone on yahoo messenger from this site, and we talked and talked and talked, until I was past my craving. Well we know you can do it! Keep your head up!

Hi Jay!
This is a great place to get the support you need.
Sign up at www.fitday.com to keep track of your food intake. It will help keep you honest.
I have also found changing my signature tag to another day very motivating. Once I change it I don't want to slip up and cheat.

welcome back

You aren't alone kiddo. There isn't anyone here who didn't go through an uncomfortable reality check of their own. Mine was when I realized I really did have Type II diabetes.

Think of 320 is just a great starting point - but it doesn't define your magnificent soul.

Healing and friendship are here for you at the forum.

Follow the rules of induction, eat only the foods on the approved foods lists and you will soon be on your way and posting all your losses.
