      Make an effort, maybe?

It's impossible, imo, to follow something for life if you don't quite know what you're doing, why you're doing it and what the benefits are.

      balsamic
I know this is from your pre-Atkins menu, but you're not using balsamic vinegar now, are you?

now on atkins my veg intake is alot less but now reading the veg list you gave me the link for it will be very easy to use these in my cooking
      Glad to hear that!

do i need to be as close to 20g as possible without going over most of which coming from veg?
As I have said, in general, being closer to 20, will give you better nutrition. This is good for your overall health, as well as for your metabolism. So, if you want to have a nutritious diet, eating close to 20 net carbs increases your chances of doing that.

is it complete rubbish that if you were to have say 10g a day you will lose more weight quicker?
It is not something Dr. Atkins ever advised. The only thing he wrote for Induction is that almost everyone will lose weight eating 20 net carbs.

Speed of weight loss during Induction as a function of net carbs was not his concern. On the other hand, he does talk about having a nutritious diet even during Induction... and he gives a sample menu in Chapter 11 (this is the chapter that explains Induction), to show that, with smart food choices, one can get most nutrients in the required amounts when consuming 20 net carbs.

Have you tried other diets before? Have you ever lost weight fast on Atkins (any previous attempts?) or on any other diet?

And if you did, did that help you make that diet a lifestyle?

Making any way of eating a lifestyle has nothing to do with how fast you are losing. It takes time to learn new eating habits.

Also, if you read the book, you will see that weight loss is only one of principles behind Atkins. The other three are weight maintenance, good health and disease prevention. And, for good health, you need good nutrition... and that should start in Induction.

If George wanted chips, he could have had flax or cheese crackers.

Even taco shells can be made from shredded cheese.

            Microwave Flax Meal Wafers

            Cheese Crisps

Do you miss tacos? Induction friendly recipe with pics!

              Re: induction diary

If George decides to give it a try again the cheese crackers Georgiana mentioned are great when the desire for crunchy pops up. Being mindful of portions, they are a staple.

Not sure about the tummy ache. Did you eat anything labeled "Sugar free" with sugar alcohols in it?

                Hi George and Cheri,

Sorry to hear about the chips George! (I think you mean what US folks would call fries?) There are some alternatives to fries which I think can be made out of turnip - but mayeb someone else can confirm that as I have never made them.

It is possible you have given up because you weren't getting enough veggies and varitey. A lackof veg might also cause, um, digestive issues which could cause your stomach ache Cheri?

Hope you can both hang on in there. After the 14 days of induction cravings tend to go completely if you are strict.

                  Re: induction diary

Ah right - chips/fries, crisps/chips lol. There are several websites with some very good recipes. I think I've seen a few that give alternatives for chips made with potato (other veggies are used).

Also check out the Never Ending Induction Recipe thread http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-diet-14-day-induction/58513-never-ending-induction-recipes.html

I started there and found lots of wonderful recipes that could be used "in place of" the bad stuff I used to eat. Of course that was good to break the addiction and habits. Now I'm on to other "legal" foods and recipes without thinking of them as substitutions.

I hope you guys hang in there. Once you are about a week in it's almost as if something magical happens and it's not so tough.

                  Again, good luck!

                    Hi everyone

to be honest i felt fine i didnt need to eat chips i just took the advice from a member on here "It's impossible, to follow something for life if you don't quite know what you're doing" i thought about this and thought what am i doing???

i like to eat whatever i like i also love to cook but i hate the fact i have to count everything study every lable and cant if i want to eat an apple or whatever

basicly ive decided to eat what i like when i like but exercise more because i feel good after an hour working out and i feel good eating pasta or fruit dont get me wrong i wont eat choc after choc but if i fancy a kit kat why not??

lifes too short imo to have to study everything i want to eat so anyway people this will be the last post from me good luck to everyone and i hope you will all find happiness whatever size you are

If you were taking your computer apart to fix it or your car engine, would you just skim read the instructions? Why skim read what you are putting into your body?

And if you are giving up, that's up to you, but any eating plan to lose weight is going to require some planning, reading, measuring, cooking, maintenance, unless you just use the "push away form the table" plan...and even that won't work unless you only have good healthy food in front of you.

                            Well best wishes to you.

                              hi j

perhaps im not 100% happy with my size and thats why i thought id try atkins but im sure with some exercise i can bulk up the areas i want and slim down the ones i dont but thanks for your input

                              mission to lose

i would not try and fix my own car or computer as i know nothing about them so im not doing atkins for that same reason im sick of having to count carbs and feeling greese eating steaks and fat all day and having to use the toilet 3 times during the night because im drinking so much water

but look people im perhaps not at the hate myself stage that i need to be to really get behind atkins i understand from reading on here (not skim reading mission to lose reading properly) atkins is for life a real change to what you eat and im not ready to count carbs and not treat myself to a chinese or a pizza once or twice a week for life

if the exercise thing dont work out for me who knows what frame of mind ill be in i may even properly read the atkins book

but anyway this induction diary should now be focused on cheri as she is doing very well its dinner time on day six and apart from upset tummy she is doing great

                              George
