  • Scale issue

Ok our old scale broke so I went to walmart and bought a 17 dollar digital scale. Well the issue I have is my son is doing atkins with me and when he first stepped on the scale it said Error, which by the directions meant he was over the 300 pound mark. Well next day it said 312, next day 303, next day ( he was checking for accuracy) it said 297, then 292, well yesterday after like 3 days of not weighing it read 3 different weights in one 5 minute period. 290, 279 and then 269? My weight this morning along with my husbands was up 3 pounds from yesterday. Anyone think this new scale is full of it?LOL I wonder if it is because it is a cheapy.

    Re: Scale issue

Weight fluctuates, but I think your scale is having some issues.

My scale fluctuates up and down 1-2# within 2-3 minutes, but not as bad as yours. (I don't weigh myself every 2-3 minutes...LOL, that is just for testing its accuracy)...so I just weigh weekly.

I think your scale may need to be returned.

The best scale is the old fashioned "Dr Scale" from the old days when you would slide that little bar across the numbers. Those are difficult to find for the home and a little more costly.

WE had one years ago that we got from an office near our business being kicked out due to non payment of rent, and ironically it was a diet center. They (the landlord) put all of their stuff outside the building and anyone could take it since the diet center people were informed to remove it and didn't.

i spent more money on mine and i can get fluctuations but not to that degree. i know a member who does three readings and takes the average of the three. you should expect fluctuations from day to day but not 10 to 20 pounds in a 5 minute period YIKES! LOL
you may indeed need to spend a bit more and buy a better a scale. at the very least, return and exchange and maybe upgrade to a better scale.

you said you bought it at walmart. they take stuff back, even out of the box. just take your reciept. it's worth a shot. they might give you a credit towards another scale at the very least.

or you could ship the scale to me................ losing that much weight in 10 minutes.... PRICELESS! LOL

            Re: Scale issue

I found that if you are at round about the top weight that the scales can weigh it is very inaccurate.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

              Re: Scale issue

My scale is over two decades old and still is remarkably accurate - it's one of the first digital scales that came out. I hope it never breaks.

I find that it always weighs me a tad over what any doctor's office scale weighs me in at - never more than three pounds over. I'm perfectly happy with it - if it were me and I knew I was deadly serious about this diet, I would invest in the best scale I could afford and could find with the best customer reviews, make sure it's reasonably stable in recording the same thing over again and then compare what you weight on your scale with what your Dr.'s office scale tells you. None will weigh the same but you will know the comparison then - if any scale weights me consistantly and is - say - five pounds from what my Dr.'s scale says - I'm happy.

I have found that most Dr.s scale are the best money can buy generally and had good upkeep - I then know exactly what I weight according to a very expensive scale which is checked for accuracy very often and can be confident that my own scale is reasonably accurate which is the information I really want.

Mine says error if you jump on it too quick. But was right on with the doctors last week. I took off my shoes and subtracted 2 lbs for clothes. Scales should be banned anyhow. LOL.

Yes the mystery of what I weigh at the end of induction continues, this morning after a 4 pound gain yesterday to 191 this morning I am 179. I think the scale is playing head games.LOL I am ordering one from Tanita, I have read they are one of the most accurate out there.

I spent $30 at Wal-Mart for one of their glass ones. Has a top weight of 400lbs and has been dead on. My brother weighed himself at the gym, was 184.4lbs and my scale gave him the same weight.

                      It's not the scale's fault. It's gravity's.

You are using your scale on a hard surface, right?

Yep the scale has not moved, it is on the hard floor of the bathroom. This morning I weighed 50 pounds. Clearly broken.

Woah, 50 pounds. Yes, clearly it is broken. I bought a Weight Watchers scale. It was $40.00 at Target. It's one of the glass top ones. I really like it and it is really accurate. I weigh in once a week at work for a "Biggest Loser" challenge and the weight it within .2 of each other each time. Since I weigh in at home with nothing and obviously with clothes at work

It's so frustrating, isn't it? I have a scale that will give you different numbers each time you stand on it. The nice thing is every time you stand on it, you're thinner.

I bought the most beautiful scales a few years ago for nearly $100. The dang thing did just what you mentioned. I could step off and on 5 times and get 5 different numbers differing up to 4-6 pounds. IMO even a weekly weigh in is useless if you scales are more than 1-2 pounds off.
