All? Cooked? Raw?
What's changed from previous times when you have posted but never mentioned a bad reaction to vegetables?

Re: What if I have a bad gag reflex when eating veggies...
i am honestly not sure what changed before i could eat lettuce, romaine, spinach, no problem and now i have to try and not focus on what i am eating and sometimes i can get it down but most times i have to fight throwing up. I like tomatoes (but they are higher in carbs) and celery sometimes i can do but even the cooked ones like green beans or broccoli i sometimes get the same sensation with that as well.F/height 5' 7"/restarting clean induction sw 283.4/cw 283.4(starting 03/02/2009)

Re: What if I have a bad gag reflex when eating veggies...
Wow, thats strange. How about veggies hidden in soups or casseroles?
How about covered in cheese and bacon?
How about one that tastes like appleish and crunchy?
What about pumpkin pie like?
Is it the texture or the taste?
We gotta get those veggies.

Re: What if I have a bad gag reflex when eating veggies...
I would probably give them a break or switch to a different kind.
Right now I'm at a point where even thinking of eating broccoli makes me feel queasy; probably because I made a terrible dish with it yesterday.
But don't abandon them completely. Use some tomatoes or tomato paste, garlic, onion, ect. A nice beanless chilli would probably be a good way to get veggie carbs without really noticing the veggies.

Can you manage them in a soup?Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

If it persists, see a doctor. SEriously, see a doctor, because difficulty swallowing is a real medical problem particularly if you previously had no issues with it in the past.

Re: What if I have a bad gag reflex when eating veggies...
Today is day 8 for me & I am having this issue w/ my salad veggies. I swear eating lunch today was more like a chore & not b/c I wasn't exceptionally hungry but b/c I had another salad I had to get down. I like the idea of trying to get them in via soup but I've never in my life made a soup other than vegetable which was mostly NOT salad veggies or just popping open a can of Campbells. I truly want to stay on induction for at least a month but IF it means I have to eat a salad every day I'll die. On another note I did just try the mock danish & it smelled amazing while it was cooking but maybe I didn't get mine mixed well enough b/c it was kind of like eating a flattened out sweet boiled egg. With that odd description said I'm so hard up I still enjoyed it!
Okay so it's a couple hours later from when I origianlly posted here. I chopped up all the celery & mushrooms in my frig also a bit of onion & a small tomato & tossed them in a pot. Cooked em for about 10 mins & then browned some ground beef. Added some water, salt & pepper & voila a different way for me to get those darn salad veggies in tomorrow & for several days after!Last edited by BrettaD; February 1, 2010, 07:18 PM.~Bretta~

Re: What if I have a bad gag reflex when eating veggies...
In early Atkins, I would cook some broccoli, cauliflower, onion and celery together in chicken broth. When it was very tender, I'd puree it and add some salt and pepper and sprinke some parmesan cheese on it. Yummy. Great for cold weather, great to reheat. It is one of those imprecise recipes that has a lot of room for forgiveness. Just measure you veggies as you make it so you can count the carbs and portion control it according to your carb needs for the day.
When you are alone in your head, you are in a bad neighborhood.

Re: What if I have a bad gag reflex when eating veggies...
Don't make the mistake of thinking that the "salad" vegetables are lettuce, lettuce and more lettuce on Atkins. Mushrooms and celery are listed as "salad vegetables". So you don't have to eat lettuce every day. You can eat mushrooms or celery or sweet/hot peppers or cucumbers or radishes or jicama, etc. instead of lettuce.Originally posted by BrettaD View PostToday is day 8 for me & I am having this issue w/ my salad veggies. Re: What if I have a bad gag reflex when eating veggies...
There are lots of things you can do with salad veggies besides make a salad! Sautee mushrooms &/or peppers - slice zucchini, place on a sheet in the oven covered with cheese & bacon & bake - lots of other ideas in the induction menu post, Linda's website or the recipe section of this site.Julie__________________F/37/5'2"__________________Start April 15, 2009

Re: What if I have a bad gag reflex when eating veggies...
Irish, Irish, that sounds so good! I think I'll try that today! Thanks...
(random thread crasher that I am)
Thinking about what they say about how it takes trying something 6 times before you like it... usually in reguards to children not liking veggies... maybe it'll work for you. Keep trying them. Your tastes buds will change. Use lots of herbs, spices, butter garlic etc... try new recipes. So many things to do with veggies! Try not to get in a rut with the same ole thing made the same ole way. If it's making you nauseous it may be your bodies way of asking you to kick it up a notch and get creative.
