  • Extended Induction

My sister is now starting on Atkins!! YAYYY!!!! I am trying to help her out as much as I can, she wants to lose about 50 lbs. She asked me a question about extended induction and I was stumped, She asked if she would continue to lose weight rapidly continuing on extended or would she slow down dramatically. I didn't know how to answer because I moved on after induction. Please help?

    Is she reading the book?

Atkins isn't about losing rapidly. Losing rapidly is the wrong way to go about it.

      Re: Extended Induction

With around 50 pounds to lose she might be beter to follow your lead and move to OWL after her first 14 days on induction.

Those first heady weeks of losing weight each day usually slow down to a crawl if people stay on induction levels of carbs and food choices from what I see posted on lowcarb boards, so the sooner she starts discovering if any foods affect her adversely and sees how many carbs she can eat and still lose the better in my opinion.

Also it is much easier to tell if your added carbs are affecting your weightloss if you still have an appreciable amount to lose - starting OWL if you are close to your goal weight is hard to do as you cannot easily tell if you are approaching your CCLL or just down to the slow crawl most people experience when close to a healthy weight.

Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

        Re: Extended Induction

it will slow down compared to the initial drop in weight as most folk see from week one to week 2 but it might be one or 2 pounds faster then doing the first rung of OWL.

her issue with extended induction is goping to be food boredom and getting all the vits and minerals she needs to keep her metabolism moving along at any rate of loss.
