  • Why is caffeine bad?

    Hi:

I've read many websites about Atkins Inductions phase and they all state to avoid caffeine containing foods. Why?

    Doesn't caffeine increase metabolism?

    Thanks,

Did you read what Dr. Atkins had to say about caffeine in the book?

      Why?
From the Acceptable Foods List: http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...induction.html
*Excessive caffeine may cause unstable blood sugar and should be avoided by those who suspect they are caffeine dependent. Everyone should try to avoid caffeine.
Other than the Acceptable Foods List, you might want to read the Rules of Induction, too:

The FAQs here are not a substitute for the book though.

while caffeien may stimulate the metabolism is doesn't stumlate fat burning metabolism.

insulin is a fat storing hormone not a fat burning hormone so Atkinseers would like to keep their insulin production to the minimum they need to metabolize the blood sugar needed by the body parts that can't metabolize fatty acids and ketones, and transport the proteins to the cells where the body needs them.
