  • no measuring cup, how can I measure?

I know I will need a measuring cup but until then, how can i measure say 1 cup for now? Is 1 cup approx the size of a standard coffee mug?

How can I measure chop meat without a scale or measuring tools??
Is there an approximate way I can measure for now?

    I don't even have a bathroom scale!

Technically, there is no such thing as a standard coffee mug because coffee mugs are different sizes. They may contain anywhere from 6 fluid ounces to 10 fluid ounces. A standard measuring cup contains 8 fluid ounces.

Look around your pantry/refrigerator and see if you have a container to which you know the fluid ounces/volume it contains. For example, if you have a bottle of water. Look how much fluid it contains. If it contains 16 ounces, then you can cut the bottle to half for an approximate 1 cup measure.

But seriously, measuring cups and measuring spoons are relatively inexpensive. I've seen them at dollar stores for $1.

there is really no need to measure meat with a scale or a measuring cup, because meat generally doesn't contain carbs. So it is a food you can eat, without measuring.

If you don't have a bathroom scale, don't worry. You can take your measurements because the loss of inches is a better indicator of the loss of fat according to Dr. Atkins. So if you have a belt or a length of string, use it as a measuring tape.

ahhh.. right. great idea. thank you!

I will go to the dollar store to get a measuring cup but for now, this is a great idea.

The reason I wanted to measure the meat was because I just joined fit day which has a pie chart and wanted to make sure I don't have too much protien and too little fat.

Cause I have noticed that I use olive oil as a fat only product to cook food, but I do not use butter on my eggs. I have read that if you don't get enough fat in your diet atkins won't work.

atkins is a high healthy fat moderate protein low carb way of eating but because fats are relatively high cal per gram small amounts will go far to keep your % in line. Dr Atkins measures in teaspoons not cups for fats

Occasionally, dollar stores have sewing supplies and carry measuring tapes too.

the most important thing is the fat. Typically 1-2 tablespoons of an added fat will give you a high fat diet on Atkins. So that's like 1 tablespoon of mayonnaise or 1 tablespoon of olive oil on your veggies, with your lunch and dinner.

Re: no measuring cup, how can I measure?

Since I signed up on Fitday, I want to know if fitday is accurate with the 1 cup of beef cooked. (i am using 80% lean chop meat) so I picked 1 cup of beef cooked is 386 calories, 26.2 g of fat..

I guess this would be correct if fitday is saying thats what it is???

I like fitday's pie chart so thats why I wanted to get the protein fat correct

Did you have 1 cup of beef?

Generally meat is weighed in ounces.

And it's generally best to enter your food in Fitday in the raw state.

ok, thank you.. I will do that then....

I'll change my 1 cup of raw meat to 8 ounces on fitday.

                thanks!

Did you eat 8 ounces though?

And ... don't forget that 1 cup is 8 ounces by volume, not 8 ounces by weight.
