  • Day 3 downer...help!

Okay so this is day 3 for me on Induction. Ive been doing pretty good I think. Feeling great, and have had little trouble sticking to the diet cuz even though my bf isnt on Atkins, he supports the low carb thing and helps me out (we live together)..today I am finding I have a couple problems. First: I feel really tired and alittle crappy today. This is a first as the first two days my energy was great. This day I just can't get moving! Is this the Induction flu setting in??? May be. I am good on the calories I eat and stuff, so what may make this better or is a "tough it out" thing?? And second: two of my stepkids are over and they don't like healthy food at all! They are 10 and 9. I do all of the cooking (which I have no issues with because my bf is a cop and works nights so he sleeps during the day alot). And we have all this high-carb and starchy and sugary stuff for them! This is the first Ive really felt any temptation. I try to make them get their own snacks and stuff but their mom at home does everything for them so they really dont know how to do much by way of that. So Im stuck pouring the sugary cereal and making the PB and J sandwiches or the mac and cheese or potatoes or something pasta for dinner, or having them eat chips and cookies or even worse, ice cream! Help! these were all weak points before Atkins. What do you guys do to fight through this. I don't want to mess up. I am determined to get fit and look and feel good again; these times just make it soooo darn hard

    >>I feel really tired and alittle crappy today.>>

    Could be "induction flu".

    >>what may make this better or is a "tough it out" thing??>>

Time will make it better. Also make sure you're getting all your water and all your vegetables, and eating enough food.

    >>wo of my stepkids are over and they don't like healthy food at all!>>

I bet if you served them yummy food, they would eat it all up!

    >>their mom at home does everything for them so they really dont know how to do much by way of that. >>

Then you can help them learn!

I know one lady who simply serves her step children what she eats ... that's what they get. Funny how it works ... they love her food!

Oh atkinsgal I wish it were that easy!! We always feed them what we eat and if they dont like it they complain and cry and we have to let them eat side dishes and if they dont like those I end up having to prepare a snack or something later on! Is just more work! And I try to teach them how to do stuff, they just don't ever do it and seem to think they shouldnt have to! As for the Induction flu, yeah I am thinking it's hitting me. So I will just do the best I can and wait it out!!! I know it's worth it!

        >>if they dont like it they complain and cry>>

        Oh.

        Hint ... let them!

You're teaching them that they can get their way: "I end up having to prepare"

You don't. Children won't starve. And they're old enough to learn how to put peanut butter on a piece of bread.

        >>they just don't ever do it and seem to think they shouldnt have to!>>

They will if you don't do it for them!

Seriously ... do you want to cripple them for life? What's going to happen when they leave home?

What kind of husband/wife will they make?

Ok ... that's enough Dr. Phil.

It really sounds like the induction flu.
yes we will have a lot of temptations and stuff and in the end we just have to the right thing. I usually pamper myself a bit on induction. I have really cool expensive legal food around that will make me happy. I love smoked salmon and some special cheese and there are always cheese crackers. Eat legal and don't feel guilty about it.
          Hang in there.

Atkinsgal, I agree with you a hundred percent! The catch is we try to get them to do things but they go home for the whole week and come back with the same bad attitudes. And the bf says that WE have to make them something because mom will raise heck if the kids come home hungry. Ive told them they cand expect someone to do for them forever, and that their father and me are not "servants" and cooks and maids, but they dont care. I feel like Im beating a dead horse...anyhow, no matter what, I am NOT letting anything stop my progress. Ya its only been two half days on Induction, but when you are a mainly-carb and junk eater like I was that is a good accomplishment and reason to keep going!!

              >>come back with the same bad attitudes.>>

              Naturally.

However, if you and BF don't accept those bad attitudes, and give in to them ... guess what will happen.

The kids won't go home hungry.

              >they dont care.>>

Time for them to learn to care.

They're walking all over the adults in their lives ... I wonder who they bully at school?

              >> am NOT letting anything stop my progress. >>

              Good for you!

And if YOU can learn new tricks, these children can.

Try making mock=a=foni and cheese - it's cauliflower made to look and taste like mac & cheese and it real good. My husband, who doesnt follow Atkins or like cauliflower eats it and loves it -- I just don't tell him what in it.

I am the only person in my household who is on Atkins so there are temptations all the time but if you are serious enough about getting healthy you'll learn to get past the temptations when serving or making food for your family.

Stepkids are a really tricky proposition. There's probably lots of background stuff going on that's contributing to the issue of what they will/won't eat at your house. Why don't you start a separate thread on this subject? I'm sure there are others with this problem.

Good idea brandy!! I may just post a thread about it. The great thing is this: yesterday when it came time to cook lunch and dinner I was going to cook for all them and then make myself something easy and Induction friendly. My boyfriend said NOPE, we dont cook separate meals for the kids so why do it for you. I told him it was my choice to eat this way and I don't want to force that food on anyone else. And he told me he likes the food and that when the kids are here and we are doing the cooking they have to respect what WE are eating, and if that means Im on Atkins then thats what they eat too on the weekends!! I was SOOOO happy that he is giving me that much support!!!!!! It makes things alot easier!
