  • carbs other than veg

hi just wondering if its ok to use my 20 carbs for ... ect: extra chease , cream , splenda some days instead of veg?
i understand the importance of veg but some days it would be nice to just have extra of these things.

Since we follow Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution 2002 ed here, the answer is no. The majority of your daily carbs comes from vegetables. Cheese is limited to 4 ounces maximum. Cream is limited as well and so are sugar substitutes.

Follow the rules to ensure you will get the results you want to get.

Cheese and cream are calorie dense. There is the potential to gain weight on Atkins (yes, we've had some members in the past gain weight because they were eating too much food. While there is a metabolic advantage, if you exceed your calories, you will either stop losing weight or gain it.) So eating more of these foods has the potential to derail your weight loss.

As for the sugar substitutes.....your mileage may vary in terms of weight loss/gain.

If you are getting sick of your current menues, you might want to look up different recipes and try different foods.

As you progress through your ATkins, vegetables remain a mainstay in your diet.

No it is not. Did you have a chance to read the book yet? You can find it for cheap in most used book stores if you do not have it. You need to educate yourself about the programme to have a chance of a long term success.
There is a thing called a glycemic index. Some carbs food just make our blood sugars rush and others does not. So we eat veggies to get their maximum nutritional benefit because we need to be HEALTHY at the same time as we know that the veggies on Atkins list are very low glycemic.

For now I would recommend you focus on doing a clean induction. It's 14 days, not that long and will give you chance to get settled in. I wouldn't think of cheats or ways around the rules during the induction. That's setting yourself up for failure.

If you do induction clean, by the end of the 2 weeks you may find yourself focused enough that you don't even want to cheat. Basically Keep your head in the game and eliminate the distractions for now. You can tackle them later.

You know, putting that cheese and cream on your veggies would solve all your problems.

You get to add more frsh dairy when you get to OWL rung 2 so do your induction as close to the rules as you can cause the pounds lost doing a clean induction are used to help you extimate your CCLL and knowing the problem you are having at say 30 grams of carbs isn't cause you exceeded your CCLL can go a long way to helping you figure out it was that food that was the problem and not the carb level.

                      Re: carbs other than veg

Vegetables have only a small effect on one's blood sugar and come packed with vitamins, minerals, fiber, antioxidants and other phytochemicals. By undereating veggies and overeating diary, you will likely be missing on nutrition.

Even if you lost weight while eating more cheese, cream, etc. than allowed, you would not get the full benefits of Atkins. Dr. Atkins wrote that the Atkins principles are weight loss, weight maintenance, good health and disease prevention.

I only get sick of veggies when I forget to (or am too lazy to) get lots of variety. Overdoing salads & plain boiled veggies does get a bit boring...Have you checked out Linda's recipes for veggies (under side dishes on her site) or the side dishes in the recipe forums on this site? Some of them are fabulous

I'm a starchy carb junkie too. But around my TOM-----I start craving the sweet carbs. So, it's during this time where I really, really, really have to use those coping strategies to make sure I don't fall off the Diet.
