Presumably you weigh your vegetables to get the most accurate carb count you can get. Therefore weighing them to the nearest picogram is necessary because even 0.00000000000001 grams either way can destroy your "accurate" carb count. Even that 1 ml of water clinging to your vegetables will skew your accurate carb count. For that matter if you peel or seed your veggie after weighing, it will skew your accurate carb count.

So if you weighing because you are worried that you might be eating 11 net carbs of veggies rather than 15 net carbs of veggies daily, you better weigh them accurately. If not your efforts for an accurate carb count are in vain because your weighing method is invalid.

Re: Veggies What is the right measurement?

I think the book needs to be written more clearly and percisely when it comes to veggies. LOL. I loosely packed my measuring cup today and it is a lot less veggies thus far in a day I would eat HAD I MEASURED.

What about fitday? If i type in I had 4 slices of cucumber and it comes out .7 grams of carbs - it's wrong? Or do I use another site for weight measurements of veggies?

From what I understand, fitday.com uses the values from the USDA website.

Okay, I think I'm safe. I also found another post for newbies to use fitday for more accurate counts. The only problem is YOU MUST take in consideration the FIBRE counts and minus those off your gross carbs to gain a net carb count.

I'm going to continue using fitday as my measurement/counter tool of choice then.

You can use the FitDay entry for 4 slices of cucumbers. If you eat 4 slices, you won't be much off. If you eat 40, then you might want to measure them differently.

              Glad you found that.

The way to count net carbs is also explained in the book, in Chapter 8.

FitDay is a good tool. I've been using it since I started.

just remember to use the word raw with anything you are looking up in fitday or you could get a cooked version with some added ingredients.

you can always click on the name of the food once you think you found it and there will be ingredients to the right on the new page and you can see if they added any oils ofr flours or even sugars to it so your counts aren't off.

                  This used to be true.

However, since Fitday.com upgraded, I've not found this "feature".

Can you tell me where it is, on say, " egg, whole, cooked, scrambled"?

                  Thanks.

                    that is scarey.

                    definitely only use raw then.

Re: Veggies What is the right measurement?

J is right, the online fitday doesn't show the ingredients anymore and I just checked my fitdaypc and that doesn't either, which I hadn't realised as I always list raw ingredients

A few years ago the online one did list eggs, milk and margarine as the ingredients for scrambled eggs as far as I remember, which is why I changed how I logged my foods to use the raw ingredients instead.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!
