  • Day 1

Didn't do perfectly. I fell in that trap of 'it's within my carb allowance, so I can have it' - but it's NOT on the allowed food list. <sigh>
Then I looked at the bottle of the darn balsamic vinegar I have - and it's higher carb than my fitday says. No wonder I was eating salad like candy - it was! LOL

I'm going to post menus - if anyone sees anything wrong, please let me know.

M: Coffee w/ HWC, SF torani hazelnut syrup, cinnamon
L: 2 salmon patties & ~1/2 cup asparagus drizzled in olive oil
D: Salad w/ romaine (3 cups), cucumber (1/2 cup diced), grilled kabob meat, 4 grape tomatoes & balsamic vinaigrette (1 TBSP balsamic vinegar & 3 TBSP olive oil)

According to my Fitday (and I did adjust the balsamic for the difference in carb counts) this got me 19.4 grams carbs.

Other than the balsamic, which I won't use again until after induction, did I do ok?

Did you deduct the fiber from the 19 carbs?

You may have gone over your veggie limit!

Nope. 19.4 was w/ the fiber. Fitday said there was 5.2 grams fiber, so net carbs was 14.2.

I wasn't planning on going by net carbs this time. Going by recommendations for portions in the book, I went over on veggies as it was. I suppose I could have some eggs if I get hungry before bed...

That breakfast of yours is trouble - just a big bloodsugar rush. You need to have some real food - fat and protein and ceggies.

The rest looked pretty good. I am not sure what kabob meat is - is it clean????
You are a bit over on the veggies - 3 cups is the recommendation in the book. And yes the vinegar has to go.

Overall you are not eating enough I think. Do not try to starve yourself that will back fire.
        Drink plenty of water.

But all in all. That was not a bad first day (a lot better than my first day)

My coffee w/ cream & sugar-free syrup raises blood-sugar? I don't much care for food 1st thing in the morning. <shrug>

The kabob meat is just cut up meat, like london broil or steak. I added garlic powder & onion powder before grilling and sea-salt afterwards.

Unless I eat eggs everyday, I'm not sure how I'm going to get to 20 grams if I have to limit to 3 cups veg.

Don't like water, unless it's bottled. I drink Diet Hansen's and plain mineral water.

Not starving. Feel pretty good actually.

Thanks for finding things I hadn't thought of.

            Re: Day 1

A lot of us overweight people are like that. We skip meals but it is really not a great idea. Causes over eating for most of us - or irrational snacking. So I really recommend trying something. Start tomorrow.

You do not have to get to 20 carbs - you can be under. Not a big deal - but you should eat your veggies. And yes it is a bit hard to get a nice carb count with just lettuce so look into adding other veggies to your menu too.

I do have more veggies to eat.
I bought some broccoli slaw & angel-hair cabbage - was going to make crack slaw soon. I need to check if my broccoli crowns are still good. I have mushrooms, too. I have frozen spinach, artichoke hearts, asparagus, and a grilled pepper/onion mix.

My problem usually is limiting my veggies to the cup guidelines.

                Re: Day 1

im having trouble avoiding carbs, i didnt realize it was that hard, but i will remain positive and will do something about it. My goal is to look good and feel more confident. I do have a question though, so is it true that in the first phase you lose water weight, is that true? My concern is that i want to lose FAT weight, is that afterwards or what? i just feel self-conscience

Check the ingredients. Usually there's sugar added.

It won't make you gain weight as long as you are not overeating your net carbs.

In OWL, you can add more veggies.

You shouldn't "avoid" carbs. You should choose the right ones using the Acceptable Foods List:

So, if I go over the 2-3 cup recommendations, I'm ok, as long as my carbs are still under 20?

The broccoli slaw is just a bag of the veggies. I have to add the rest of the ingredients. Today it's going to be shredded pork tenderloin, soy sauce, sesame oil, ginger, garlic, and a coleslaw mix. It all gets cooked up like a stir-fry.
It does have a very small amount of carrots. I'm debating the carb impact versus the trouble to pick them out. lol

Down 1 pound this morning. I'll take it.
