  • Day #6

    Today is my sixth day into my 14 day induction. I have been very strict, very much by the book, including:

    • Giving up my evening crown royal cocktail(s);
    • Giving up my four to six cups of coffee; (strictly decaff)
    • Switched to Diet Right Cola but limit myself to no more than four/day when I do drink it;
    • Written done my net carbs and have not exceeded 15 on any day, most are under 10 carbs;
    • Drink at least 64 oz. of water each day;
    • Mindful of portions and not over-eating;
    • Using the Atkins Advantage bars and protein shakes to satisfy a sweet-tooth (have had a total of three bars and one shake over six days).

    On day three I registered "moderate" on my ketostic. On day four it registered "negative." This morning (day 6) it registered "trace."

    As of this morning I have lost 2.8 lbs from my starting point.

    My question for anyone is should I be concerned about the ketostix readings? Physically I feel fine, not significantly different but good (probably due to not drinking the alcohol each evening).

    I read about people loosing 10 to 15 pounds during induction and approaching half way to have lost only 2.8 lbs. I feel cautiously optimistic and resisting being a little discouraged.

    I enjoy meat, eggs and the limited amount of vegetables allowed during the phase and have no problem staying on course.

    Anyone have comments / suggestions / ideas to give me perspective as to how things are going based on the information I have provided?

    Thanks,
    John

    Re: Day #6

    Yep the cola and the bars could definitely be affecting you. Restarted a little over a week ago and am down almost 10 so far. Also maybe your carbs are a bit too low. The nutrients in your vegetables are needed. The bars and shakes affect many people. The only way to fight the sweet tooth is to break it, but if you must whip some heavy cream with a touhc of cocoa and splenda, or vanilla and splenda.

    But stay with it, it works.

      >>Switched to Diet Right Cola but limit myself to no more than four/day when I do drink it;>>

      The limit of sweetener is 3 servings a day, and 8 ounces is a serving.

      <<Written done my net carbs and have not exceeded 15 on any day, most are under 10 carbs;<<

      That's not really nutritionally sound. The closer you are to 20 net, with MOST coming from Induction vegetables is a better way to go.

      >>Drink at least 64 oz. of water each day;>>

      You would do better to aim for 1/2 your current body weight in ounces of WATER.

      >>Using the Atkins Advantage bars and protein shakes to satisfy a sweet-tooth (have had a total of three bars and one shake over six days).>>

      All these are doing is feeding your sweet tooth, not helping you get over it.

      As you know from reading your book, one of the purposes of Induction is to get rid of your cravings and break your addiction to "sweet". You're not helping yourself.

      >> As of this morning I have lost 2.8 lbs from my starting point.>>

      Probably because you're undereating.

      >>he limited amount of vegetables allowed during the phase and have no problem staying on course.>>

      You could be better "on course" though.

      As to the sticks, have you read:

            I agree with Jim, drop the shakes, drop the bars and drop the pop. Any of those alone could stall you but all together it's definitely not a good thing. If you absolutely have to have the pop cut back and drop the other 2 things.

              >>If you absolutely have to have the pop>>

              Just out of curiosity, why would someone "absolutely have to" have pop?

                I don't know you'd have to ask them, I don't drink it. I would assume it's like those that think they absolutely have to have coffee.
