  • Question: Pain reliever tablets that are sugar coated on the outside

I take tablets of Advil daily for lower back aches. The outside of the asprin tablet is coated with this sugar like substance.

What I have been doing is I put the tablet under hot water and rinse off the sugar coating on the pills.

But when I swallow them even with the sugar coating washed off, I still taste the slightest bit of sugar on my tounge!

Will this slightest bit of sugar that seems to be still remaining on the tablet affect ketosis and spike insulin which will in turn inhibit my fat loss results?

    >> rinse off the sugar coating on the pills.>>

    That's not a good idea, I fear.

That coating is there to protect your insides!

I wouldn't worry about this coating at all.

Do the list of ingredients mention sugar?

the TINY amount of sugar that's in it probably won't matter much.

I checked the bottle and it doesn't have anything noted that the Advil is sugar coated... I did chuck out the original packaging though, so I am just going by what the bottle says which doesn't list as much as what the original packaging would say.

It certainly tastes EXACTLY like sugar!!

It does say on the bottle that the 'original box packaging' had more information and warnings... but i threw it out.

I should check the advil site if they have one to see if they do use sugar or not.

There is no way that amount will hurt you. Chances are it's a gelatin substance and yes by rinsing it off you are setting yourself up for major internal problems. It's there so it doesn't dissolve right away and eat ulcers into your throat and intestinal track until it gets where it can dissolve safely.

My vitamins have a sweet coating which I hate on them but no way that's going to hurt my loss.

                According to one website
List Of Advil Ingredients | LIVESTRONG.COM
                Tablets and Caplets
The inactive ingredients in Advil tablets and caplets, as noted on late 2009 product labeling, are: Acetylated monoglycerides, colloidal silicon dioxide, cornstarch, croscarmellose sodium, methylparaben, microcrystalline cellulose, pharmaceutical glaze, pharmaceutical ink, povidone, pregelatinized starch, propylparaben, sodium benzoate, sodium lauryl sulfate, stearic acid, sucrose, synthetic iron oxide, titanium dioxide and white wax.

The "coating" on the tablet is there for a reason. Just take the meds as they are & don't worry about it.

I agree with everyone else do not rinse the coating off. It is there for a reason. It helps with the the drug breaking down in the stomach and also a protection for it as well.
