  • Here we go!

    Hello, fellow Atkins friends!

I originally planned on starting Atkins about 2 weeks ago, but some events took place that made it nearly impossible for me to stick to the diet, so I didn't end up officially starting until Valentines Day.
Two days down the road, I've lost 3.5 lbs and am feeling good
I have to say...I'm sticking to the diet very well except for one problem...my caffeine intake. It's safe to say I'm very addicted to caffeine, so cutting out the coffee has been an issue for me. I'm making it a goal though to cut down if not eventually completely cut out my love affair with coffee.
I did Atkins a couple years ago and still had a couple cups of coffee a day while still losing weight, so hopefully I maintain the same sort of results this time around.

Sometime this week I'm going to start trying out some of the wonderful recipes on this forum. Thus far I've been eating mostly scrambled eggs with bacon, turkey and cheese rollups for lunch, and a salad of some sort for dinner (taco salad has been great the last two days, I think I could eat it everyday and never bore of it
Definitely Faux hashbrowns will be on the menu for my weekend breakfast!

Anyways, hope everyone else is progressing well!

    Welcome to ADBB!

Are you making your own taco seasoning?

Don't forget to count the carbs in the coffee ... and don't forget it doesn't count as water!

      Hi, and thanks for responding
The taco seasoning states it has 2 net carbs per package, and since I'm only using half a package, I've been counting one.
Thank you for reminding me to count the carbs in my coffee! Honestly, I'd completely forgotten.
Don't worry, I realize coffee doesn't count as water. In fact, I'm sure if there was an anti-water out there, it would be in that category, hehe. I'm drinking half my body weight in water daily, so I'm hoping that will be enough.

Great for you for starting. I know the coffee is tough for many people (I personally call it the "bean juice of death" but that's just me). But I had a similar addiction to diet pepsi. Try to just wean yourself off it cut back a cup every couple of days, switch to half regular half decaf, then to all decaf. It's that caffeine that's the issue on this plan.

        Best of luck.

          >> The taco seasoning states it has 2 net carbs per package,>>

That's because of the sugar in it. It's not really Atkins friendly. You would do better to make your own ... plus it's considerably cheaper!

One must always read the list of ingredients!

Linda's Low Carb Menus & Recipes is yummy.

          >>I'm drinking half my body weight in water daily, so I'm hoping that will be enough.>>

          Good job!

However, since coffee is a diuretic, you should drink an equal amount of water for how much coffee you drink ... in addition to what water you're already drinking.

            Re: Here we go!

            Hi again!

Thanks for pointing that out about the taco seasoning and coffee/water scenarios. I'll probably grumble a bit when having to purchase the spices for the seasonings, but I would rather spend a few extra dollars and lose more weight than leave anything to chance.
I'll definitely start upping the water intake as well in proportion to the coffee, and start scaling down by using half decaf/half regular.

One question though: I've been eating 1 oz of monterey jack cheese as a snack. Is this ok? I know I have to count it as one carb, but didn't see jack cheese on the list of "safe" foods, so I'm hoping I haven't been messing things up already

              Monterey jack is fine.

Buying the spices will save you $$ in the long run.

If I have ground beef I use cayenne, onion powder and a little garlic salt to season it. Tastes so much better then any taco seasoning out there that I've tasted, haven't tried the one on here yet. That's coming from someone that loves tacos and taco seasoning LOL

Everyone likes it better, even the kids.

I am interested in how you are doing the cheese rollups and taco salad- is it just the same but without the bread?

I just put my taco meat in a bowl of chopped romaine, add whatever toppings ... mix and eat.

Yes, pretty much what atkinsgal said in regards to the taco salad.
As for the turkey and cheese rollups, I just take two slices of turkey, one slice of cheddar cheese and a slice of pickle then roll it up and insert a toothpick to hold it together. Quick and easy when for those days when you're short on time.
On a side note...I have some disappointing news...I fell off the wagon last night. I'd been craving my favorite chinese restaurant for about 4 weeks now, and when we just happened to drive by it while I was ravenously hungry I threw my diet out the window and went in.
I'm very mad at myself today, but even more motivated to get back on track and start shedding the pounds again.

What do you plan to do next time when you'll be hungry and driving by that restaurant?

And what dish did you have?

I plan on making absolutely sure I don't forget to bring my afternoon snack to work,so I won't be ravenous next time I drive by.
What did dish did I have? It would be best to answer that with "what dish didn't I have?" It was a buffet and about my worst trip off a wagon ever. Yes I was that bad

You might want to keep some emergency snacks in your car, too... like cheese or flax crackers.

If you can't eat on plan at a restaurant, then at least you can minimize the damage by making the best possible choices. Since "what dish didn't you have?" is a better question... was your cheat just hunger? To satisfy your hunger, at least for a short time that it takes you to get home, you don't need to eat that much food.
