  • Day 8 of Induction, down 6.5lbs

For me, induction will not end in 14 days. I have decided to stick to induction until I lose 10% of my body weight (19lbs) so, Day 8 does not indicate to me that I am half way there. Merely, that I am progessing and loving every second of it. (Ok, not every second........)

I have registered w/ FitDay.com and if there is any newbies to induction, I highly suggest to get on board w/ this site! It is fantastic and a great visual in the form of a pie graph seperating your fat, protein and carb percentages.

The "carb flu" wasn't all that bad.....headaches and fatigue were bad. The metal taste was very strong a couple of days ago but now, it is more like a dull taste that lingers. My cravings have subsided for the carbs and now it is more about breaking the habits. My appetite has really decreased and I have to make/remind myself to eat. That is over the top crazy for me!!!

I will do the official weigh in Friday w/ my four friends, we all started last Friday. We measured, took before pics of face/side/front/rear and also weighed in. I'll post the results of us all.

Basically, one week and a day in and 6.5 lbs equals success to me!!!!!! Btw, FitDay told me that 3lbs a week is not reasonable........is that true? I think it is a great goal.........

Re: Day 8 of Induction, down 6.5lbs

Hi! I also started Atkins around 2 weeks ago (17 days) and have lost a total of 14 lbs. In my first week I also lost around 7 and I see we have similar stats so keep it up! I think the more weight there is to lose, the faster it will go at first and then the body will slow down. I just really hope that when that happens to me, it is closer to my goal weight. Stay motivated, once I passed week 2 eating just feels like something I have to do because I am hungry and my body needs it, not because I am craving all sorts of carby things. I really feel it's becoming more of a lifestyle than a diet.

    Good job!

      lfc,
Our stats are very similiar. I totally agree w/ you 'bout the closer to your goal the slower weight comes off. One thing that I haven't done yet is to incorporate exercise. I have decided to master one goal at a time and right now it is to get the eating portion down. I wanted to de-carb myself first and get over the effects of the change. I am curious to know if you are exercising? My plan is to start cardio workouts week three. Can you give me some examples of some of the effects you have endured during your induction and how long do you plan on staying on induction?

Re: Day 8 of Induction, down 6.5lbs

Hi, I actually want to stay on induction until I reach at least 170 lbs, maybe 160 depending on how I feel and then start adding a few carbs like you are supposed to. I heard when you add more carbs you still lose weight but it's when it really starts slowing down so I want to make sure I am at a closer weight to my goal so I don't lose motivation as the weight loss slows down.

During the first few days of induction I got maybe one headache but I did need to sleep a lot more than usual. After being in ketosis, I started to lose cravings for carbs and by day 10 I no longer craved them. I did however get a weird head feeling the first 2 weeks. It wasn't so much a headache but I felt like my eyes couldn't focus too long on one thing or that I had a bit of light sensitivity maybe. It's hard to explain because it was such a weird feeling. Maybe my brain getting used to using ketones instead of glucose. After week 2 that was gone.

The first 10 days I didn't really do any exercise except maybe walk my dog anywhere from 30 minutes to 1 1/2 hrs. But after that I started to get bored so decided to start playing some tennis an avg of 3 times a week and still walk my dog whenever I had time. I don't feel exercise however is as important until the weight loss maybe slows down a bit. Maybe when that starts happening to me I will take it more seriously.

I wouldn't say that "it really starts slowing down". Sure, if your CCLL is 50 and you eat 48 net carbs, your weight loss will be slower than if you ate 20, but adding 5 net carbs worth of vegetables in OWL Rung 1 rarely slows down one's weight loss. In fact, some people even lose better with more veggies than they did eating 20 net carbs... or less.

You'll see many members here who are in OWL although they have more weight to lose than you do... and they are losing just fine.

How many calories are you consuming, on average?

How many net carbs? How many of those net carbs come from vegetables?

Are you eating regular meals and spreading your net carbs throughout the day?

How much water are you drinking?

Re: Day 8 of Induction, down 6.5lbs

                    MJ,
I have only begun logging my daily intake into Fitday three days ago. I am at the point where my appetite has decreased big time and eating when I am not hungry doesn't seem right. My portions of what I have eaten the last three days have been very close to the break down of fat/carb/protein goals but I will admit that that is only one meal and a snack. For instance, today I haven't eaten and it's close to lunch time. I am getting ready to eat turkey links, celery w/ some sourcream and for snack later (if I eat it) is chicken lunch meat dipped in mustard. So, to answer your question, I am not eating regular meals. But, yes, I am drinking so much water it is crazy. Very thirsty!!! What are your suggestions?

                      >>FitDay told me that 3lbs a week is not reasonable.>>

Women lose at the statistical rate of 1/2 to 1 pound per week.

                      >>I am not eating regular meals. >>

That can be acceptable as long as you're eating enough food.

                      >>I have this weird dizzy feeling, >>

Could be an indication that you're not eating enough food nor drinking enough water.

                      >>I have decided to stick to induction until I lose 10% of my body weight (19lbs) so,>>

That's not really how it works. Induction has specific purposes and weight goal isn't one of them.

The minimum is 3 meals. A reason for this is that unless you eat an enormous amount of food in a sitting, there's no way you'll consume enough calories in one meal and a snack. Furthermore, we are supposed to spread our net carbs throughout the day, not eat them all (or most of them) in one meal.

Celery is very low in net carbs. There are more nutritious vegetables on the Acceptable Foods List... and you need more vegetables in general.

Have some breakfast and some dinner... and don't go for more than 6 hours without food.

What you are probably experiencing are symptoms of hypoglycemia. You need to eat.

I took all the advise to heart and put it to action. I have included more veggies in the day (last night, brussell spouts, the best veggie ever) and have included more protein and fat. And yes, I do feel much better. No more glazy feel. I think it is so fantastic that veterns of aktins mentor the induction phase gurus and show us the right ways. Thank you all for the input and advise.

                            Have a great day!!!
