  • Weight Gain While in Induction Phase..Help!

So here it is, I'm on day 56 of induction, I have gained 4 pounds, and have been in ketosis for 4 days. i found a few hidden carbs the second day, but eliminated them, and since then have gained a pound a day. I have been eating all meat and cheese and onions, and an atkins shake, consisting of 5 grams of carbs in the mornings. I drink more then the required amount of water, no sodas or anything else. I have had all the symptoms, the pink ketostick, and have gained weight. I have also been on my "women time" since 4 days ago, and the book says that might put a stall on the weight loss, I 'm not sure but maybe I should have waited to start the induction until after it had stopped, but dumb me I didn't even think it was coming. I am also completely confused as to which supplements to use. i also wanted to know if i should detox with some sort of drink or pill or just let my body do that naturally. i am just so confused because i have gained weight and everyone says they are losing weight, someone please help....

    I think you meant 5. (?)

I have been eating all meat and cheese and onions
Are onions the only vegetable you've been eating?

and an atkins shake, consisting of 5 grams of carbs in the mornings.
Atkins shakes are not meant to be meal substitutes. They also stall some people.

    the pink ketostick
Pink Ketostix do not mean you are following the plan correctly. You can gain weight while in ketosis, as you have seen.

I have also been on my "women time" since 4 days ago, and the book says that might put a stall on the weight loss
It can also make you gain weight, not only stall your weight loss.

I should have waited to start the induction until after it had stopped
    I don't see why...

I am also completely confused as to which supplements to use.
An iron free multivitamin is the minimum.

Essential oils were also recommended by Dr. Atkins.

i also wanted to know if i should detox with some sort of drink or pill or just let my body do that naturally.
    Just follow Induction correctly.

Drop the shakes, dozens of people a week post they are stalled or gaining and most were on the shakes or bars. Once they drop them they start losing.

Also you need more than onions for your veggies. Cheese is also limited to 4oz per day and it also can stall people.

Defintely add veggies! A fit day/menu would help. I know I will stall if I don't get enough carbs.

Oh sorry I actually meant day 6 of induction, sorry. Yes onions are the only veggie, i love onions on everything, but I will try to get some beans or salad in there sometime. i will eliminate the atkins shakes until phase two, and am going to stop using them as a meal substitute, I just am not a big breakfast eater and it seemed easier, but obviously isn't working =). i am going to try a geriatric multi-vitamin like you suggested in the other post, and keep taking the flax seed oil as well. Also my women time is coming to and end so maybe if I correct all of these mistakes i can finally see the effects. Also my menu has been pretty simple, sausage or a shake for breakfast, and hamburgers with cheese and onions or pork chops for lunch and dinner. I haven't really gotten out of this range yet because i had been on a low fat diet for months and hadn't had a cheeseburger in forever, so I'm not yet tired of eating them. Is diversity better for me? Thank you so much for all of your advice, you are a huge help and have really made me feel more optimistic about this whole low carb thing.

Do you have the 2002 edition of the DANDR? I think if you read it, it will make things easier for you. It's a great motivator!

No I have never even heard of it, but I will find it, I need all the motivating I can get at this point, I've been doing so much other reading that it's starting to make my head spin, but of course you can only read so many books about low-card dieting, the Atkins diet, the books that came after that, and of course books on ketosis. Thank you for the advice and I will check that out.

I hope by "beans" you mean green or yellow beans, or snow pea pods, or sugar snap peas.
