  • Newbie-starting today-some questions please

I am very motivated to do this diet/way of life. I NEED to lose 35lbs. I was pretty thin my whole life and after having my 2 children have not lost the "baby" weight. My daughter will be one in March and can't keep using the excuse "I just had a baby". I know my problem is carbs, I eat them all day long.

I am so happy I found this site it has so much useful information.

    My questions are:

I read that I can have coffee, is flavored coffee ok? I have a Keurig coffee machine and have french vanilla & other flavors? I don't have the box so I'm not sure if they have carbs?

Also, what can I put in the coffee? Is there anything I can put in with no carb value? I wasn't sure about half and half or heavy cream? I know I shouldn't use milk. I don't use sweetners, so that's not a problem, but I LOVE coffee and I actually think it makes me less hungry.

My next question is do you have to eat a fat with each meal? I don't like mayo, so I need other suggestions please. I wouldn't eat a tuna or chicken salad with mayo I would rather it plain. Is there anything else I can put in there?

I am starting at 160lbs, I know each person is different but how long do you think if I stick to this strictly, that I can lose? I am hoping to lose the weight by summer? Approx. 35lbs.

    Thanks so much!

    Welcome to ADBB!

    >>is flavored coffee ok? I>>

    Yes.

    >>what can I put in the coffee? Is there anything I can put in with no carb value? I wasn't sure about half and half or heavy cream?>>

Heavy cream. It has 0.4125 net carbs per Tbs. And don't forget that coffee is 1 net carb per 8 ounces.

    >>do you have to eat a fat with each meal? I>>

    Pretty much.

    >>how long do you think if I stick to this strictly, that I can lose?>>

Your body will lose at the rate it will lose. There's no way to look in to the future to see what you will weigh by summer.

Are you reading Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution (2002)?

For fat suggestions - butter and oils are good. Plain tuna or chicken would be too much protein if not tempered with some kind of fat - do you like dressing?

How about olive oil rather than mayo in chicken or tuna salad? I like that.

Tuna with a sprinkle of olive oil, some diced onion and a little bit of lemon pepper (make sure lemon pepper doesn't contain any sugar) make a nice tuna salad. Also you can buy the tuna packed in oil and not water.

As far as the coffee - I had to switch to decaf and only have it on weekends. The coffee does contain about 1 carb per mug.

Sour cream makes a zingy dressing on meats or salads.
