    hi.

If you are pregnant, you should not be doing the weight loss part of Atkins---at all. The Maintenance phase of Atkins is okay for a pregnant or nursing woman to do.

If you are just using up the prenatal vitamins you have, don't do it. Prenatal vitamins have a good quantity of iron and Dr. Atkins didn't want us to take additional iron supplementation. His reasoning was that we would be getting more than enough iron through our diet (animal proteins and leafy green vegetables are both good sources of dietary iron). Unless your doctor runs tests on your blood and says you have to take iron supplements, avoid them.

There is some confusion over sugar-free gelatin desserts on this diet. Jello Brand sugar-free jello is not allowed because it contains aspartame. Aspartame was noted by Dr. Atkins to stall or slow down weight loss in some people. A gelatin dessert using Splenda, saccharin, Ace-K or stevia is allowed, however, it is also limited because we are not to have more than 3 servings of a food/beverage containing artificial sweeteners.

    I hope this helps you.

In terms of vitamins, start with a good multi vitamin that does not contain iron. Many of the formulations for seniors contain little or no iron. Often the vitamins marketed for low carb diets are the same, but way more costly. Give another read of chapter 23 in your DANDR too to help you along.
