  • Day 8, no weight loss, put on 1kg, miserable

    I am so upset, this is my second time doing atkins, I was never overweight but am a "Pear shape", I just store more than I need to... I always wanted to lose 6kg (13lb) and I am finding it impossible, I have my wedding in June this year and I am starting from now because I know how hard it is for me to lose weight.

    It is so frustrating as I exercise 3 hours a day at least 3 times a week and burn at least 600 calories, I am very athletic and feel like even if I exercise so much my body never changes. I've tried all diets (weight watchers/low calorie low fat/detox diets)I even tried skipping dinners... nothing works.

    I even stopped the contraceptive pill thinking it had something to do with the hormones I was taking. I have no hormonal issues, thyroid issues or anything that could stop me from losing weight.. So why is this happening to only me?? I only ever lost weight on the atkins diet 5 years ago, I looked incredible so I thought about trying it again because it is the only thing that ever worked, and the weight just fell off me, Im now eating and cooking the same things but no change??

    Everyone that does a diet properly gets to lose weight, I have been doing the atkins induction religiously for 8 days, I have been in Ketosis since the end of day three, I lost a kg (2.2lb) up til yesterday which possibly was only water because I put it back on today! The ketostix have constantly been a medium mauve, then today, the eighth day i've fallen out of Ketosis. I am so upset and even went and took a bite of bread because I am so angry and missing carbs. What can be wrong?

    I had the flu on days 4,5,6 and today day 8 I got my period, I stuck to the diet all along even though I was sick and stayed in ketosis, I was still eating cheese and eggs and meat.

    Please can someone help me?

    Hi,
    Do you eat veggies or just cheese, eggs, and meat? What are you using as a source of information for following the Atkins plan? Do you own the book?

      OH, and MANY people retain water around their "TOM". Didn't you ever notice a slight water gain or puffiness around that time previously?

      Plus your body is probably also trying to get well again after the flu.

      You don't have much to lose, plus you have all that other stuff going on...Relax a little and give it a chance. With so little to lose, it WILL come off slowly. And last time you did this was 5 years ago? that is a long time, and your body changes over time.

          thank you so much for your advice. I have changed my profile info I hope it shows up as I am still a newbie! I do eat a lot of green vegetables, I am very healthy always have been into health and fitness and good food and have great faith in this diet, I just need some support before I fall off the wagon!! I do feel bloated and I think thats what is making me feel down and my constant failure in other diets just to lose a measly 6kg which sounds easy but it isnt!! I did take vitamin C when I was ill only because my lips were chapping a lot and was worried about "scurvey" so I dissolved a couple in a glass which knocked me out of ketosis accordig to the "stix" but I needed my vitamins even if I was having veggies. The contents of the vitamin don't show any carbs at all so I don't know if it is wrong to take it.

          I hope you are right and it will drop off eventually, it just annoys me if I have been doing the right thing for 8 days straight..

          I have read the atkins book twice and I have a mini carb counter i carry around, I also have a low carb cook book and constantly come back to this forum to seek ideas for food to eat, so I must be doing it right as everyone else is! Five years ago I started dropping pounds from day 5

          thank you again I hope you are right, I will come back here to let you know if it does, I will try and stick to this until day 14!

              Didn't you ever heat the expression, "the last 10# are the hardest to lose?"....it is usually pretty true.

              Have you tried using FITDAY.COM to track your food intake? It is very helpful.

                Really?

                Maybe the chapped lips were due to lack of humidity.

                  Perhaps sharing the menu with us and we will help you out here. Most people have some things that may need changing
                  You need to relax a bit. More stress in those post than I have felt for years. But then again I understand - you have a wedding planned. Please take some deep breaths. The body need that

                    thanks Guys, yes the last 10 are the hardest, I have always battled to lose 10lb at least!
                    Nat here are the ingredients of the vitamins:

                    Holland & Barrett - Effervescent Vitamin C Tablets high strength 1000mg
                    citric acid
                    sodium hydrogen carbonate
                    vitamin c (as Ascorbic Acid)
                    Inulin
                    calcium carbonate
                    sweetners (sorbitol, saccharin, aspartame)
                    Flavourings

                    is it safe?

                      oh wow you guys are amazing, so much support on this site, I swear if this diet works for me I will be on here helping others too!

                      An example food plan for me is:

                      Breakfast:

                      black decaf coffee
                      atkins shake or flax muffin (egg, flax, oil, baking powder)

                      lunch:

                      chicken breast (clean)
                      cut veggies (lots of lettuce/peppers/
                      low carb dressing (lemon/olive oil)

                      snack- atkins bar

                      dinner-

                      stir fry tofu with mustard (low carb book recipe)

                      treat flax pancake (same as flax muffin recipe)

                      drinks- diet 7up as odd treat

                      is this bad??? it used to work for me!! but like you've all said metabolism changes!!

                        The bars and shakes could be the reason you are stalling. I would cut those out.

                          Are you used to eating that much flax in one day?

                          Tofu isn't really an induction food ...

                            I cant live without those bars!! THey are only about 2 net carbs each, im always eating veggies dont worry I'd pass out if i didnt, flax meal, I probably have 2 tablespoons a day (max) that was a sample food list, I also have prawn stir fries which I make with garlic and parsley on a bed of veggies, the tofu is very plain, I flavour it myself and according to my low carb recipe book its practically carbless!

                            Maybe its because I was ill all week and havent been able to exercise when my body is used to excersiing all the time. And TOM doesn't help

                              I agree with what Atkinsgal is implying here, lots of flax (more than the one tablespoon or so suggested by Dr A in DANDR to avoid constipation) might well cause a buildup in your body. Are you drinking plenty of water to help it through your system?
                              Tofu isn't really an induction food ..
                              AS far as I know the 'soy cheese' Dr Atkins mentioned in the allowed list is the same food we now call 'tofu'. So as long as it is part of the 3-4 ounces of allowed cheese it is fine.
