  • I need some encouragement or . . .

maybe just a kick in the attitude.

I'm trying to get going on Induction, but I'm mentally down a bit. I'm having a hard time getting excited about this because I have been on so many diets over the course of my life. Thinking about starting Atkins just makes me think, "Ok, here I go again. Another diet." My husband says I tried Atkins years ago, but I've done so many diets that I don't even remember trying it!

Yesterday I did fine until I left work. Then I got a hamburger and ate it, bun and all. Today I'm starting out again fine and hope to end the day still on the plan.

    Thanks for your support.

    Hi Daisy,

I don't know if I'm the perfect person to give you encouragement, but I can tell you a bit about my experience. I did Atkins a number of years ago, as well. I lost a little bit of weight, but I was constantly cheating and not really committed. This time I've been on induction for 1 week and 1 day and am down 8 1/2 pounds. I did my shopping prior to getting started and just have a different level of commitment. I'm "ready" this time to make it work. I want to be healthy and feel good when I look in the mirror. I'm tired of hating shopping and hating going out because I only have a few things (tent-like) that make me look okay.

For me - these are the things that are making it work.
    1. Commitment - I will not fail. I know this diet works - there is proof all over this board.
    2. Preparation - the only time I was close to cheating was because I didn't prepare. I didn't make something ahead of time for lunch. I ended up stopping at Chick-fil-a and getting a chargrilled chicken sandwich without the bun and a water. I think I would find it quite difficult to do this without preparation.
    3. Water - drink LOTS of it.
    4. Temptation - stay away from it. I'm much less tempted this week, though.

I really hope you make it work for you. At the end of the day, that's what it is all about - how you feel about yourself. Make a commitment and stick with it. It's not bad at all and the benefit on the scale makes it fantastic. Good luck!!!!!

Don't stop at the burger place, keep driving. You'll be home sooner than you think. Keep veggies like snow peas and sweet peppers in the car as snacks. Hard boiled eggs are great at staying hunger. There are lots of options you have to keep to the plan. Read the book too. Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution (2002).

Clear your mind of your past diet failures and commit yourself to do ATkins by giving it a fair chance and giving it your all.

Stop thinking of Atkins as just another "diet".

Is this how you want to eat for life? (And I don't mean Induction ... I mean Maintenance.)
