It can be done if you eat eggs and cheese, but it might be very difficult to get good nutrition.

    Do you eat fish?

I would strongly encourage you to move to OWL on day 15.

How much meat are you eating? I only ask this because Atkins is a high fat diet, not a high protein one.

When I did my Induction, I noticed I was eating the same amount of meat I had been eating pre-Atkins, but I was eating more fat and less carb. In other words, you swap the carbs you were eating for fat, while keeping the protein about the same.

yes it can. Check the FAQ stickies for an email our orginal vegetarian got from the Atkins folk back when Dr Atkins was alive about how ti do it as a vegetarian. Many of his patients were vegetarians

they recommneded stuff like the bocca products as the protein source. Your carbs will be a little higher then the meat eaters but you will be fine and getting healthy.

I'm eating more meat. Eggs every morning. I used to eat the Arnold thins with peanut butter in the am. Yogurt sometimes. At supper, cottage cheese with a fresh orange. I'm not sure I can give up those foods.

An orange isn't really appropriate for Induction, even a vegetarian Induction.

I also suggest you move to OWL after Induction. My meat/protein portions are pretty small as the bulk of my meals are veggies with some nuts, seeds, berries and/or cheese.

In OWL I often have Greek yogurt or cottage cheese and berries or raw veggies. I prefer almond butter to PB and have that on celery sticks. Mitzi's Ultimate Pumpkin (MUP) recipe is also great.

                YAY! A vegetarian =D
Ive done introduction on atkins as a vegetarian.. its hard but its great =)
I didn't do the whole '3 cup' thing, I just stayed below 20 carbs.
Avocado, eggs and butter are my main source of calories.
I don't just have half a cup of avocado either =] I love my avocado.

And never stop eating the eggs, there a wonderful source of protein and FANTASTIC scrambled with butter and pepper.
I'm on rung 1 now, so if you have any vegetarian questions or anything =D im your girl!

last i checked vegetarians eat eggs and fish so you should be ok eating lots of eggs and or fish

the protein in eggs is 100% absorbable

try to make your fish mercury free if possible

the diet would never work for vegans though cause they don't even eat eggs or fish

Fish is meat, ew. =] thats prespertarian... Or however thats spelt XD.
Presertarians can eat eggs, dairy, fish.. I don't really see the point in it though, since your still eating meat, though I guess it could be for health reasons or something.

Vegetarians have the choice of eating eggs and dairy but no meat.

Ziggy, thats true about the vegan thing though, But I guess they could try maitenance.. maybe.. Just lots of avocado and nuts.. Wow... No that'd be way to hard.

I was referring to a normal meal for me. NOT induction. I do have the book. I did Atkins original 1972 book, so I'm familiar with the program.

                        Oh.

I guess I didn't realize you were asking about a "normal" meal for YOU.

                          Ziggy,

There's different levels of "vegetarian". It's quite possible for a "vegetarian" to not eat eggs or fish.

                          from Wikipedia:

                          Varieties of vegetarianism

The following diets are subsets of vegetarianism.

Strict vegetarians also avoid products that may use animal ingredients not included in their labels or which use animal products in their manufacturing e.g. cheeses that use animal rennet (enzymes from animal stomach lining), gelatin (from animal skin, bones, and connective tissue), some sugars that are whitened with bone char (e.g. cane sugar, but not beet sugar) and alcohol clarified with gelatin or crushed shellfish and sturgeon.
