    Hellmans has sugar!

    damn, I am on the extended induction and i know that atkins says that you can have fats in the form of mayonaise and butter.

    I JUST NOTICED Hellmans Mayo has sugar in the ingredients!

    oh no.

    Does anyone else use Hellmans mayo without a problem?

    Yes it has sugar but it is a very very low amount unless you are planning on eating a lot of Mayo. I use it when I have tuna and sometimes to dip my chicken in. No problems but I dont' eat a lot of it.

        There are also sugar free brands, like Duke, although they might not be so easy to find depending on where one lives.

            A good "rule of thumb" is that if a product/food has sugar, then it can't be in one of the first four ingredients and that the net carbs per serving have to be 2 or less, then the product/food should be safe.

            Of course, an individual can have a different tolerance for even small amounts of sugar.

            For me personally, I'll eat a bit of real sugar as in Hellmann's ... but if there's sugar and corn syrup and other forms of sugar ... then that item doesn't get purchased.

              The carb count in UK for Hellmans mayo is 1.5 carb per 100g (3.5 ounces weight approx) so as long as you don't go mad with it you should be OK. Maybe count 1/4 carb per flat tablespoon for it for anyone in UK.

              I don't know if the USA ingredients are different from the UK ingredients though.

                I use it too until my "care packages" arrive from mom with the Duke's. Hellman's hasn't caused any stalls for me. As others have said, just don't go crazy with it.

                  The Atkins carb counter book has Hellmann's as 0.1 net carbs per Tbs.

                    I wonder if this was before they changed their recipe. Unless I'm mistaken, I remember Hellman's being completely sugar free until a few years back.

                      Hellmann's has had sugar in it since I've been doing Atkins ... 2004 ... I can't say I paid attention to the ingredients before that.
